Don sat next to me in Shorthand our senior year. I went to Austin about a week after school started that year to take my State Board tests in Cosmetology. I knew I would never use shorthand in my real life and missing the second week made me even farther behind. Don and I competed for the lowest grade and I won! I failed and Don made a "D"! We had so much fun in that class and learned nothing! I believe Merideth Dahl sat in front of us. He wanted to be a priest and would always turn his head away if my slip was showing but point to it so I could fix it!
Hi Dianne, thanks for your kind words and memories of Don Duncan. I am sorry I never got to know him. I had seen him at both Stanton and Irvin on numerous occasions. However, we did not have any classes together. He did seem like a quiet and sensitive person, and I have heard nothing but great things about him. I pray he is resting in peace and looking down kindly on his classmates.
Don was such a gentle soul. His sister Clara and I knew each other after we graduated because she married one of my husband, David's, friends who worked with him at State National Bank while they attended UTEP. I was so sad to hear that he had passed away. I remember that shorthand class, Dianne, and used it a little when I worked at Fort Bliss after we graduated. Thanks for posting about Don. Glad to hear you did what you set out to do.
