I am sorry to hear of Kathleen's passing. Sadly I did not keep up with her after graduation. We shared being struck down by lightning while walking home from Irvin High School and lived to tell the tale.

Hi Judy, thanks for sharing your experiences with Kathy.  I also had not kept up with her after graduation, but learned of her passing a few years ago.  We are all saddened that a good friend and classmate passed away.  I also recall, in eighth grade, that the two of you were struck by lighting.  We were all relieved that you recovered quickly and returned to school.  I don't recall you making any comments about your expierences then, but I remember Kathy saying that she "neither heard nor felt anything" before the strike.  That always scared me about lightning and has always been my impetus to take cover when a storm approaches.  So glad you have connected with us and hope to see you at our reunion.

So sorry to learn of Kathleen's passing.  I vividly remember standing in the breezeway, waiting for the wind and the rain to let up so I could walk home and seeing the flash when the lightening struck the flag pole, then struck the sidewalk. Many kids just fell over, like bowling pins!  It was so bright and lasted only a few seconds, but I remember people getting up, not knowing what happened but I do remember 2 girls who didn't get up and had to be taken to the hospital.  To this day, I'll make sure to be safe it we see lightening - which rarely happens in California.  We fear lightening here, it has been the cause of many a fire due to the horrible drought we're going through.  We do need the rain, but you know that song..."it never rains in Southern California"!
