Jacob Fishman

Way to go Frank!

10/20/18, until further notice-all even numbers, which may be relevant to someone.

Cathy:  Tell John I said hello.   We had fun and laughed alot.  I wish I can remember what was so funny.  He was one of the singing group in the shower, but we were all very serious in that locale.  I wonder if any of that group would admit to the quality of our perofrmances today.   The sound of group song in the shower with the water running from multiple shower heads (we did not focus on soap; it was the early days of multiple person showering), but the acoustics were spectacular.  Tunes from Simon and Garfunkle, Beatles, that memorable refrain in the Lion Sleeps Tonight, were quite noteworthy.  [I am laughing like crazy.]

Cathy, when you tell John I said hello, sing him "You say goodbye, and I say hello" (a la Beatles), that may remind him of something we sang together, or it may not; I am not sure if that is one of the songs we sang

When I take a shower at the JCC these days and start to sing, the place clears out very quickly.  Maybe I lost my voice?   Little do they know, I never had a voice.  I was one of the "groaners" in Mrs. (not Miss???  there goes that theory) Podvinez's (I am not sure of the spelling, but her name is something lkie that)  glee club in Gotham Avenue elementary school.. Shit, I am now singing "Hail to Gotham, Hail to Gotham, Gotham Avenue, (da da da da) we pay tribute to you Gotham, this we gladly do ooh ooh ooh . . ."    This was a mainstay of the repetoire of the glee club; who can forget!

Reading the immediatley preceeding posts from all of you brings to mind a phrase and the picture of someone screaming:   "Get A Room!.!!!"   I am to (shit, one o or two os? help Ellen, please) old to (shit, there it is again) remember what that was all about?  Why would someone scream "Get A Room"?  Was I sleeping in the street?  I have been often told to (I think that's one o) Get a Life, which I never understood.  Anyone have any insight regarding either of these phrases?

Why do I type this shit?   I am now thinking, I should get a life, without really knowing what I mean.   Shit, Shit, Shit.   I hate Mr. Meeks.

One more bizarre thought.  In the foregoing, I am using the word "shit" in the negative sense.   That is why I have great trouble with the phrases "good shit" and "decent shit" when used in the follwing manner:  "this is good shit", or "this is decent shit".  Could this be drug related?  Do they phrases and usage have something to do with eating diet devil dogs?    But I never ate a diet devil dog.     I have read somewhere a protagoinst??? in a novel say "I took a good shit", but that may be a verb rather than a noun, in which case the discussion would be altogether different, I think.     Maybe it was not a protgonist in a novel, but one of the low lifess in my lifelong crowd of low lifes.     What is a "protagonist"?   Did Shakespere have these problems?  One thing is certain, MonsieurTrump (the "Donald") never has these problems.

I never understood  the reference "the Donald".   Is that some foregin language for "the ___hole"?   I do not mean to get political; I am only trying to understand things.  And I love to use quotation marks.   Thank you Mr. Meeks.

Enough.  I am going to make every effort to stop writing in this "Forum" (but I will continue to read what others have to say, it brings back great memories and only the occassional nightmare), so please do not tell me to shut up or to stop writing.  I will do both.  I am not crazy.   I am not crazy.  (from a movie, I cannot remember the name, but it was very funny-was it "Fail Safe"?; there are those quotation marks again).   And whatever you do, do not tell me to get a life, unless you also tell me where I should go to get one.

Was Port Jefferson ever a "port"?  And is the "Jefferson" referenced in "Port Jefferson"  Thomas Jefferson, or could it be a reference to someone else with a first name of bill, Mike, Ike, etc.?  Maybe they will have an informative brouchure in the hotel if we "Get a Room".

I cannot stop, but I am stopping.   Unbeleivable.

If my wife ever found out I was writing this stuff (this "shit"-the noun), she would kill me in my sleep,

Jake, see me at reunion (after a drink or two...) for a grammar lesson. wink

Frank, I'll need a room too, with 2 beds since Margaret & I will be sharing a room. Thanks again for this undertaking & just let me know if any down payment is needed to hold the room.  Perhaps we should call ourselves & identify we r with the class reunion group, put a credit card down to hold the room, etc.  At this point u'r probably just getting a feel for the number of rooms needed...perhaps Danford will give us a group discount, especially if we'll be using their facility to gather, eat & drink....just a random thought.

Frances Milstein (Poris)

Frank, thanks for doing all the legwork. I will also need a room to share with Ellen. I’ll pass this info to Penny Zuckerman, too (notice two  oo). Jake , I was a special ed teacher for 37 years and taught many students when to use to, too and two. I’ll make some flash cards for you.

Before I go ahead and see if there are other places for us to have a reunion I need to know if this is now a done deal? Thank you.

All -  I reserved a 20 rooms (2 - 10 room blocks) at the Danford, which is all I can get until we book those, and then I can get some more as a block. The number there is 631 928-9082 and you will reseve and guarantee with a CC individually.  The cost for "village view" is $199 + tax. They have some pricier "waterview" but I did not include these in this group. If you want an upgrade I can get it in the next block of 10. I am told that the ones we are getting is the quieter side of the place anyhow as all the functions are on the water side. They are held under Elmont HS reunion.

The Hilton Garden Inn is in Stonybrook within 5 miles. There are other options but sign up right away to be sure to secure a place to stay. I understand it is a busy weekend so we want everyone to have a good stay. We can block Friday night or Sunday as well if anyone wants to get there early or stay late and do sightseeing, take a boatride or whatever. Let me know if anyone wants to extend the time there.

Let your HS buddies know about it as well. We are trying to contact everyone but that would work quicker.

Ellen Deutsch (Riseman)

Thank you so much for doing this Frank! I’d like to post a reunion page, and will take the information you have provided in these posts as a starting point. Please let me know if there is anything else you’d like to include. I can edit/update as we get more detail.

Count me in!  October 20th is a perfect time to play in the leaves.  Mr. Frank (yes, Mr) Thank you for initiating and being an energizer for getting us together.  I left Kathy Altschuler, now Kathy Altman a message about the proposed reunion at her dance studio in Mill Valley.  Although I have not seen her in years, I was surprised to meet her leading a Sunday morning 'Sweat Your Prayers' dance.  Has anyone heard from Joel Silver?  Ahhh-Mr Meeks-yikes-I failed the typing challenge but laughed a lot.

With loving spirit,  Beth

Nancy Jacob (Belluscio)

Frank..I tried calling the given number for the hotel and got the fax ring. Could you please check to see if it is correct? Thanks Nancy

02/08/18 02:56 PM #912

Frank Gervasi

Hi Nancy, All    Sorry- I wrote the fax # by mistake. The Danford hotel reservations # is 631 928-5200. I had to fax them about 10 pages so I learned the number real good. It's great that we are signing up early. I look forward to seeing all of you. Cheers, Frank

Frank Gervasi

All - we have 12 reservations for Sat the 20th so far so I am contracting for another block of 10, which is how they do it. We also have 3 or 4 reserved for Friday the 19th of October but I suggest you wait a day if you want to do that until I can set up a block of 10 for that day as well. The block price is $199 and the regular price I am told is $269 so let me do that first, then cancel your regular reservation and reserve under the block group.

Dear Carol and Jeff - thanks for checking into other potential venues. I had heard from enough of our others (and had called a whole bunch of places myself) that getting the Danford seemed a real good option. Hope you enjoy the place.

Jacob- We cannot bring outside food into the restaurant there but they are looking into  getting us yoo-hoo. I would think having yoo-hoo for toasting (or just enjoying at the bar) would be better than having champagne, which I personally have never cared for anyhow. So how would others feel about yoo-hoo on the menu? There are lots of things I plan on asking to fill in the planning considerations, so I will begin here with the first-

1. yay or nay- yoo-hoo on the menu, possibly for toasting our great achievements, etc

Jacob Fishman

MEE HEE FOR YOO HOO (to quote Yogi)

Who needs champagne if you have Yoo Hoo!

If anyone is diabetic and so Yoo Hoo is a problem, consider a White Russian in a Yoo Hoo bottle instead,

or consider watering down the Yoo Hoo with vodka in order to cut back on the sugar.   And a slammer tastes like a Yoo Hoo with a fiz.  This may or may not be an appropriate alternative to to to to Yoo Yoo Yoo Hoo.

All of these hard choices are giving me a terrible headache.

Ellen Deutsch (Riseman)

OMG Jake! All these years I never thought of a White Russian with YooHoo! So much to make up for!

Susan Baum (Schloss)

Hi everyone! Couldn't remember my password, so I couldn't log on. Ellen was nice enough to send me a new one at Joanne's urging. I can't wait! This should be loads of fun, and I am thankful to Frank and Joanne and Ellen and anyone else who is helping to plan it. I live in the city so will have to take LIRR to get there. I am counting down the days. Meanwhile, I am going to post one photo per day of our last reunion on facebook, unless anyone has an objection. If you don't want me to show your photo, please let me know.

Susan

So Jake, I guess we will have to party in our rooms if we want egg creams. Unless, of course, egg creams are on the menu.

Frances Milstein (Poris)

I sent Penny Zuckerman the reunion info & she will be there.
