Dear Classmates,

I am sorry to be missing another get together, but I literally have no smile. After 50 plus years I can't possibly say hello with half my face masked up! (I have been this way for almost  five years now, until I found a surgeon  who could fix another doctor's mess.)

I've had two successful surgeries this past spring, and am scheduled for another on November 1.

If all goes well, I should be put back together again by late spring / summer.

I so wanted to attend the reunion, and all the Zoom get-togethers, but that is not possible right now.

Anyway, know that I read every post and think of all of you with a smile and an open heart.

I also wish all of you and your families good health during these trying times.

Hope to be part of this wonderful energy soon!

Laurie

Sorry to have missed yesterday's call. Seems that my old laptop, wife's new one, and smart phone were tech phobic.
Was very moved by Bill's text re: the universal nature of our class. There have been many thougutful, caring posts during these very rough times. My long time theory about the uniqueness of our class1 centers on our early years at EMHS. After many of us started 7th grade in 9/62, the Cuban Missile Crisis took place the next month. The next year saw the horrible loss of a President whom we cared deeply about. By experiencing these events before had not yet started our high school years, our view was affected. We saw a broader perspective. Even though we found our individual niches, there was a common bond. It is something that has always made me proud. In my humble opinion, the positive manner in which we relate in these rough times has a definite tie to events we went through together many years ago. Be safe and stay well....Joe

Hello Laurie....

Although... I do not know you well.. but I do remember seeing you in the halls while we were attending Elmont High...I wish you luck in your future surgery coming up soon...I know how hard it is to have surgery especially at our age.. but I am sure that this one will go well with you and you can join us for the next ZOOM meeting of the MINDS( * MOM *) <--The Shorter version!  Ha! This time we gathered we each had a chance to share a little something about what our year good or bad was like.  All I know is that WE ALL SURVIVED and I know you will too!  Take Care and Keep in touch! I am here if you need an ear..

My email is: Seeds2go@bellsouth.net...

Please accept my terrible memory here.. but this is puzzling me! And I am truly sorry that I do not recall this person who was at the meeting! Please can someone tell me the full name of the gal who was in the car talking to us on her way home?  Thanks it is appreciated..

And may I suggest.. as it was suggested the first meeting to put your name first and last as your name when attending Elmont so we know who you are.. Most everyone has not aged a bit...but it is hard to know who is who sometimes while at the gathering...

Smiles. to Everyone who came.. Hope to see you again!  Stay safe and Keep in touch! Cris B.

Also.. I would like to know if anyone is in touch with any of these people or knows their wereabouts?

Paulette Atlas, Patricia Atlas, William Atwell, Gerald Bodner, Carol Burnhardt,Susan Buckley,ADele Cioffari, Donna Clyde,Darlene Daly,Jeanne Cristando,Sheila Donahue,Jacob Fishman, Arlene Fingeret, Shelly Franz,Margaret Gluck, John Holton,Robert Hobler,Janet Johnson, Sandra Kushner, Charlie Matthews,Barbara Norstrom, Mark Palau,Patricia Quinn,Francine Petrie, Bob Porcher,Karen Petrocine,Heny SChweikert, Pam Scivoletti, Paul Shaum, Diana Soto, Daniel Travers, Gail Topping, Jimmy Witzman, Linda Wachsmuth,

Just curious if any of these people are still around and where?   Thanks.. Cris B.

Nancy Jacob (Belluscio)

Thanks to Irene and  Ellen for putting together the Zoom meeting.  I am always amazed at the talent, intelligence and adaptability over time of my classmates.  You are all very special people to me and I enjoy hearing of the uniqueness of each of you.

So Christine--  The "Girl in the Car"  (Is that a movie?) was Virginia Theroux.  She's a hoot and thanks to her comment before the winter holidays last year, everyone in my family received dental floss!

In regard to where are these people.. here's what I can offer,  Paulette Atlas (Ewing) lived in the town I taught in.  Her daughter, Briar, was one of my students and was in my eldest son's class.  She moved to CA.  I tried to contact her numerous times about our 50th and some zoom meetings via FB.  I IMed her many times, but only got one response.  Patt Quinn did not attend our 50th.  She lives in FL and is on FB and often comments on my posts.  Sue Buckley was at our 50th.  She lives in Iowa and will sometimes reply if a GLC group email goes out. Some people just choose to remain private!

Billy S,  Thanks for the name of the book.  I will try to find a copy, but if I show up a your tent, you better beware!  Actually, living where I do, I can just go outside without giving up the comforts of home to connect with nature.  It is very therapeutic!

Kenny L.  You made my day by saying I looked the same as I did in 6th grade.  Now I wonder if that means I am regressing!  I recall you being a very quiet young man, but you seem very social and vibrant now!  I would have loved to hear more about your health course as I taught jr hi and hs health.  We could compare notes,

Susan B-  Your city stories and candidness were wonderful.

Susan F- Love seeing your paintings on FB,

Jan - Looking forward to the next movie.  Let us know.

Of course, I could comment about each of you,  Love to all.  Til we meet again.  Nancy

Laurie Malcolm ~ I want to send healing thoughts as you navigate the medical surgeries. Health matters can be such a challenge but know you are loved and cared about, no matter the physical appearance. You are whole as you are even though you seek a better outcome.  Thanks for identifying me (the girl in the car"). It's GInger from Bauer Ct. long, long ago. Virginia Theroux Heacox. Always so eager to participate, but we were on our way to visit the grandchildren. Atlanta traffic is a big reason we retired to S. Carolina (outside of Savannah, GA) but if Atlanta is where loved ones are, we make the trek... So glad that so many on this Zoom call spoke of realizing how much they try to work at fitness and health so that the 70's will continue to allow for the freedom of mobility and life's positive adventures. Stay well, all! ~ Ginger

Just finished reading the post-Zoom posts with envy ( and sympathy for those enduring health problems). I was looking forward to participating, but also had a health issue (went to the ER Wednesday night with irregular heartbeat, despite my 5 month old pacemaker, and was kept for tests through Friday noon. All's well at the moment, with some meds tweaking).

Other than that, doing well. Still being ultra-cautious about socializing (we're in Tennessee, where COVID rates have been particularly high). My wife is immuno-compromised, so we won't be doing much until numbers really come down.

I hope there will be another Zoom meeting in the not-too-distant future, so I can see and hear everyone in addition to reading your comments.

Stay well!

Susan Baum (Schloss)

Hi, everyone!

Just wanted to thank all of you who showed up on the Zoom call. It was a lot of fun, I hope next time there will be more of us.

It is amazing that we keep in touch. I told my husband and several friends about the Zoom meeting, and they were shocked and, frankly, jealous! They said, "Well, my classmates don't contact me!"

Hope to speak with you next time!

heartSusan

Ilene Bach (Amar)

All - On Sunday, May 15, 2022 we will be having the "Unveiling" of my sister Judith Iris Bach's, plaque. It will be 11:00 am, New Montefiore Cemetery. If you can attend, or think you can, please email me (ihbach@aol.com) to let me know, and I can send exact directions. Very easy to get to.
If you can't make it to the cemetery, but would like to join us for lunch afterwards we would love to have you. That would be around 1 pm. Two years ago we could only bury Judi with a small number of people and we could not properly mourn her as we usually do. However, now we can meet, and remember her, tell our Judy stories, and as I am hoping, fulfill the "mourning process" we usually follow and get on (or try to) with life without Judith Iris Bach.
If you are local (I live in Baldwin) I would love to have you join us to help remember Judi (or Iris as some know her) and Celebrate her Life. She was unique, and very special to so many people.
Please email me if you can join us at 11 (cemetery) or at 1 (my house). This two year Pandemic caused wait has made me realize that I need this day for closure and to learn how to remember Judi and just think about her with (hopefully) less and less tears.
(If you prefer to call, phone is 516-946-4036)
All are invited - anyone who knew Judi.

HI! You beat me to it! I was just thinking that there have been no posts in quite a while!

All is well. Can't believe another year has gone by and it will be 5 years since our reunion!

Almost back to normal(traveling, socializing and weddings) but the covid numbers here on LI are going up and everyone is being encouraged to wear masks again. I never stopped. Even though I have gotten the boosters and flu shot I figure why take a chance.

Wishing everyone happy holidays and a happy, healthy New Year.
