These are some of my memories of Marywood.

Room 218 - home room freshman year and Sr. Mary Magdalene teaching algebra there.

Sr. Virginia Marie - geometry and senior year English when we had to read the classics. I hated Lorna Doone - all they did was ride across and back. Everytime I walk down the cookie aisle at the supermarket I think of that class.

Sr. Virginia Marie opening the windows even though it was below freezing - "to get the cobwebs out of your brains."

Mary Crawford "seventy times for the normal student."

Sr. Dolorosa, Latin and study hall. Her brother gave a subscription to Seventeen for each Christmas so that she would keep up on things.

If we turned in our uniforms for cleaning on Thursday and wore a skirt on Friday, Sr. Dolorosa would call us up behind the desk in study hall so she could see the crinoline.

Song of Bernadette, our senior play. Mary Karris was Bernadette. I was the mother of the baby who was the first miracle. I had to put a baby doll into the mud at the site of the apparation. Ms. Crawford used chocolate pudding for the mud.

Working at the play festival every Thanksgiving weekend at the theater at St. Ignatius parish.

The debate tournaments, the student Congresses with members from so many Catholic high schools. Sr. Francis Xavier, the debate coach. I tried to trace her in 1990. She had left the order and had not kept in touch with the mother house.

Having to find a date for seventeen dances over the four years. If push came to shove, my mother's best friend had a son, a few months older. So there was always Carl.

Benediction before the junior-senior proms with the nuns lined up on the stairs (to inspect the width of the straps?). Coke-tail parties.

Wasn't our prom at the Knickerbocker - with lights in the glass floor tiles?

Then there was Sr. Colette - bong, bong, bong, bong "A Marywood girl is always a lady."

I was not a big fan of the Sisters of Providence until the last few years. I had known Sinsinawa Dominicans and BVM's. They seemed much warmer. But now I am so impressed with what the Sisters of Providence are doing - especially ecologically.

Mary Lee, I do hope you remember me, even though I left after junior year. Several of your memories are also mine. Especially the windows thrown open in the dead of winter to make sure that we were awake. Cruel as it seemed at the time, it worked. I would like to see a teacher try that now. (never happen).
God bless. Sheila Garrity Douglas

Dear Gene, Suellen, Martha, Liz and everyone who made this past weekend so terrific:
I was so excited and admittedly a little anxious about coming back, and it was one of the most happily memorable things I have done in my life. While we have mixed reviews of our years being educated at Marywood, I think we can agree the relationships we made among our classmates have survived the test of time, and the warmth of shared experiences still brings us together. I think we enhanced our lives by coming together and once again being the class of '58!
My very best wishes for a happy future for all, and sincere gratitude for making the reunion so very enjoyable. Mary Clossey Rohr

What a great weekend we all shared. To think that many of us had not seen each other for 50 years and managed to find so many things to share both past and present. Our get-togethers were so wonderful thanks to Martha and Liz and all the hostesses. I hope we can keep in touch and maybe have a few mini reunions in the years to come. Thanks Sue Ellen and Gene for all your hard work and keeping our years at Marywood alive and well, (in spite of
sister Collette. Love to All Kathy Dever Camp P.S Anyone on their way to Florida please call me . I would love to show you the Villages.

Hello classmates,
I truly enjoyed seeing all of you and remembering the times at Marywood. I appreciate all of the effort and planning that went into the reunion. Thank you!

On another note: I left my Virgin Mobile cell phone after the luncheon at the Westmoreland Country Club on Saturday. Someone who found it and had the phone, called my sister, Janet Evans, but unfortunately Janet did not get the name nor contact information from the caller. Initially I thought it was at the country club, but calls there reveal that no one there is aware of it.
So a plea to all, if anyone is aware of it, I would be happy to pay for shipping costs to Dallas.
My home phone is 214-528-3861
Thank you,
Madeline Anderson White

Hello Everyone,

Thank you Gene, Martha, Liz and the whole planning crew for all of your efforts. I think it was a smashing success and what a good time seeing all and renewing old acquaintances. It is amazing to think that we walked out of Marywood in June, '58 and many of us had not seen one another in 50 years, yet we picked right up as if it were just a short time ago, well, after reading the name tags, and figuring out who everyone was. I could have spent many more days chatting with all. Thanks for the memories that will last another 50 years.

Fondly,

Sally De Gryse Abrams

I see that no one has posted anything in 2009, so I will be the first!
The reunion was a joy in so many ways, but best of all, I was able to reconnect with old friends and we email on a regular basis. Just being in each other's lives today is wonderful! All the years between high school and today, have just amazingly fallen away, and we're old friends once again!
