Joyce Marie Galante, 73, a longtime resident of Pequannock, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015, at home in the care of her family. 

Born in Passaic, Joyce was the daughter of James and Josephine Marafiote, and was raised in Fair Lawn. Marrying Nick Galante in May of 1983, the couple settled in Pequannock, where they raised their daughter, Gina. 

While Joyce's primary role was as a homemaker, she also worked as a secretary, taught courses through the Pequannock Department of Parks and Recreation, and was in charge of the herb department at Gro Rite in Lincoln Park. 

Joyce was very active at Our Lady of Mount Carmel RC Church in Boonton, where she was a member of the Busy Hands Knitting Group. She was also a huge lover of animals, and had a deep passion for gardening and birds. She was known for the beauty and variety of her irises. 

She is lovingly survived by her husband, Nick; her daughter, Gina; her mother-in-law, Anna Galante; her brother-in-law, Perry Galante; her sister-in-law, Mary Madormo and her husband Jim, and their sons Michael, Gregory and Nicholas; as well as many cousins in NY State, Colorado and Connecticut; and many close friends. 

Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4-8 pm at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. A funeral Mass will be held 9:30 am Thursday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel RC Church, Boonton. Entombment will follow at Our Lady of Magnificat Cemetery, Kinnelon. www.scanlanfuneral.com 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Joyce's memory to Our Lady of Mount Carmel RC Church, 910 Birch Street, Boonton Township, NJ 07005 or to your local animal shelter would be greatly appreciated by the Galante family.

Allan was Principal architect at Eisenberg & Haven Architects in Boston. Upon his retirement Allan became a dedicated volunteer for the AIDS Action Committee. Services at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard St., Brookline on Wednesday, September 10 at 11:00AM. Burial at Sharon Memorial Park, 41 Dedham St., Sharon.
