Does anyone remember the Right Guard aerosol spray can smell in the 7th/8th grade locker room after first period football practice? I remember no one taking showers after practice, but spraying down their pits with Right Guard. I will never forget that smell.

I also remember the slim pickings when it came to getting a football helmet with your favorite facemask in 7th/8th grade. I thought it was really cool when we got the purple helmets in 9th grade.

I also remember Coach Williams waiting by the back door of the Middle School with his paddle right before 2nd period. If the bell rang before you stepped inside, you would get lit up.

I also remember Lonnie Blackwell going the whole season without washing his undershirt when we were in 7th (he was 8th). Nowadays, the kids all use AXE so the locker rooms wreak with that smell. "Shower in a can". Some things never change.

Also just to let you know, We (Rockwall Yellowjackets) play Royse City this week. It is 1st game of District. Hard to believe they are 4A. We played them 1st game of district in '88.

I remember the scrimmage Ross. Most intense scrimmage ever. I remember the awesome catch as well in the live quarter. Definitely set the tone for the season. I wasn't in playing shape that early so I remember being exhausted after that. I didn't have to block a better D lineman until week 11. Spicer Sigmund was a beast.

It was the hardest thing watching you guys from the sidelines the majority of the 88 season. I remember putting the beatdown on Edgewood and Kemp, then I tore my rotator cuff in practice. I missed Royce City, Princeton, and a few more I can't recall. I believe my first game back was Caddo. That was really tough for me, considering the great run our team had that year.

Now this is funny, in dental school, I became friends with Jason Pavelka. He was in my class and played on that Pilot Point team (He is now an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in Plano). It was really funny because he was best friends with Spicer. I remember Spicer hanging out in our 1st year lab with Jason one weekend, and can't get over the daisy duke blue jean shorts he was wearing....no joke! But yes, that guy was huge.

wow...awesome you guys. how about a little female perspective?? I started Farmersville in 7th grade and I too came from a big city (Garland) to a small town. Quite a shock for me.

I sucked at sports although I attempted basketball. Ms. Leinart knew she had a lost cause and I thought Cne had the coolest BB shoes. In 8th I sat next to Beau in his mom's class and crushed on him and Chris Spain the whole year. BTW...nice parachute pants, Chris. I watched as Shane's shoulders widened out too.

We had that horrible non-fizzy grape drink (or red punch) from the vending machines and all the coaches wore those gray athletic shorts. Rusty, do coaches still wear those???? The year Rusty broke his jaw is when I was really crushing on him....and we went to the Top Gun movie and I just thought for sure we'd finally hook up. Kind of hard to kiss a guy with his mouth wired shut {shrug}. Mindy and I got into a big ole fight in the gym--I cowered like a baby--because Michelle Morris told her I was talking about her in class.

Who can forget Flick??? Good teacher and I gained some great writing skills from him. But there was nothing worse than sitting at my desk and being eye level with him when he walked by and "flicked."

I refused to dissect the frog in Coach Leinarts biology class and I thought the blood type test was the coolest experiment we did.

Mr. Lee used to be able to give some pretty powerful licks too!

Chris Spain

love Skade too.. he and my dad were friends...

shannon.. the whole crushing thing must be a female thing..

it seems like I was in love and wanting to do it with 60% of my class.. 3 classes below and 4 or 5 classes above...

I can remember my neighbor Crystal Smith. She was like 4 years older than us.. WOW.. Farah Fawset fine..

I won't even start down this list because I gaurantee you the list of girls I crushed on during school is easily in triple digits.

I agree with Chris there Shannon!

I worked with a coach by the name of Bill Bryant 6 years ago. Old school as it gets when it comes to coaching. He wore the Bike pants. Crazy son of a gun. No one else wears them. Some younger guys try and wear the tight under armor, but that is a coaching faux pas in my book.

Shannon, do you remember the "Owl Award"?

It was Mr. Lee not Leech. I referred to him as Leech earlier. We called him that, and I remember one day he got fed up with it and went off on Craig Cooper.

I remember Chris being really talented on the electric guitar. It was one day before a Freshman or JV game that we went over to his house, and he played some licks from Dokken or Ratt or some other hair band. I had no idea that kid could play so well!

I also remember some kids from Princeton pouring sugar in Sam's gas tank. Boy he was steamed! It was something about Sam living close to Princeton, but going to Farmersville schools.

09/23/09 02:29 PM #237

Sam Day

Yeah, I worked at Princeton Food Mart, so a lot of the Princeton football players knew who I was and thought it would be funny to jack up my car by pouring sugar in my gas tank! I got the last laugh when on the last play of the game and the whistle had been blown and the game was over I lit up the punk who poured the sugar in my gas tank! He played free safety and was taking his helmet off and I had about a 20 yard head of steam built up and just drilled him out of nowhere!

I remember the Little Elm game....Didn't we set a new school record for most points scored in a game! I remember I hit a guy so hard in that game that I literally walked over to the wrong sidelines after the hit!

Didn't Rusty get hurt in the warm up's before the game against Princeton? Sprained his ankle or something and had to sit out the entire game. Funny how Rusty's names keeps coming up all the time associated with getting hurt...lol

Rusty getting racked in practice
Rusty breaking his jaw in that wreck
Rusty spraining his ankle before the Princeton game

Rusty...I don't remember the Owl Award. And will I be embarrassed to be reminded of it???? Cause it seems as though my HS career was filled with them.

freshman year during a pep rally they did a 70s Travolta skit and I volunteered to dance with Jeff(?). Since i couldn't dance in the heels I had to kick them off first. One went flying into the bleachers nearly taking someone's eye out.

The famous (infamous) one in Coach Willis' class. Hagler was kind enough to bring that up, although privately and not in the public forum. Thank you, Derrick.

I always regret messing my ankle up Senior year when we were out sledding on the new concrete roads out there on Merit highway. That was in January and by the time it healed up I was so out of shape for track that I couldn't run the 440 hurdles without dying. That winter, before it happened, I tried like hell to go running with Ross whenever he was training for his events but I could never keep up.
Or I always remember back to Coach Lienarts Biology class or Drafting class and all the stupid shit we used to talk about. How Jennifer Martin always called him "Barney". Or how every day as we sat in Mrs. Page's Algebra class, she was getting out of her class across the hall and you could hear her yell down the hall "Tobeeeeeeeeyyyyyyy, Tooobeeeeeeeeeeyyyy" to Tobey Priest.
Or when Spain shut up Coach Lancaster in Health class by proving to him that you could stack up BB's if you did it in the corner of the wall and on dirt.
What about people that moved away before we graduated? Like Keeli Rice, Jason Dickfass, ummmm, Tonya Gracy, or that Nahla foreign exchange student from Brazil or some South American country.

I just went through my box of high school memorabilia in the attic and there is some funny stuff in there. A lot of stupid stuff as well. For some reason I kept all kinds of little knick-knack things. Like a napkin from our Senior Prom, or the Farmer towels we used to wear in our waistband in football to keep our hands dry before a play. Just about every letter or card ever given to me throughout school is in there. It would take me all day to read through them all. And stupid notes that Nicole or C'ne would write as they sat in my room.

lol on stackin BBs...

I always took shit over that and still think I prooved you could.

That is some funny Ship High In Transit!

Tina Walls (Neal)

Goodness!!! I feel like I went to a totally different school after reading all of this! I feel so out of the loop! : ) Where was I when all of this fun stuff was going on?

Jeff Judd

I missed 4th-10th grade with yall, but I do remember two things. I had a huge crush on Crystal Smith and I loved the drink machine at Tatum. Does anyone remember Jeff Bethel taking the cheese off of their lunch tray at Tatum and putting it under his cap? I was off of cheese for awhile.

09/23/09 11:40 PM #246

Beau Bridges

I can barely remember Jeff Bethel, much less the cheese incident.
Tina, you weren't at any of those things because you were home listening to "Open Arms". Heh heh.

Kyle Chapman

Wow, some great memories.

Brackett, did you have to bring up Lonnie Blackwell? I remember blocking him in practice one day and my hand going under his under arm and literally getting sick from his smell. Didn't you guys always like beating up on the 8th graders!!!

Beau, I claim the 5th on stealing keys and hitting up the NFL pencils, though I've wondered how I still have NFL pencils around the house. How are those Oiler pencils working for ya' today, Rusty? I have to give you a hard time since all the teams you used to like are non-existent anymore: SMU & Oilers (can't claim the Titans)

Favorite Teachers:
Elementary: Mrs. Spain (Mr. Spain bringing Watermelons to two a days)
Middle School: Coach Pryor, loved his crazy tests & TX history
High School: Mrs. Page as well. Unlike, Nicole who was Morrison's teacher's pet, I didn't like literature, though he did make it a bit more interesting.

Favorite Coaches:
Coach Page for his passion / Coach Wood for his Leadership / Coach Lancaster for bringing baseball to the 'Ville

Favorite Offense: Wing-T under Coach Shannon
Favorite Defense: Shift 10-1, probably cause I never had to get in the trenches like you guys

Crazy Memories:
Junior High Athletics wide open toilets
Getting your arms scolded when washing the lunch plates in elementary (child labor)
Tackle Football in Jr. High during Recess
8th Grade Football party at Brackett's, Sr. Party as well
Russion Boxes in Off-Season (I still have scars)
Getting Licks in School (I'm all for corporal punishment again in schools)
Hanging out in the Bridges neighborhood and like everyone else Beau, checking out your mom & sister
No one has brought up Chroir class, do we have a video of our Musical? I'm sure Stevie and Mike would pay good money for its destruction.

Man, Rusty's party in 8th grade was one of my best memories of junior high! Me and Robert Norman smoking grape vine! Hiding the beer underneath a loose board in the floor I think??? Jeff Addington and all of us running around going Mumford hunting...lol Paul Evans party back in 6th grade I think???? Well, that was pretty cool too!

SMOKING GRAPEVINE!!! @#!'N FUNNY

I was one dumbass kid.

Mr. Judd... I remember Jeff Bethel. He had the fro, right?
Seems like I remember him having some mental issues, and then getting removed from the general population because of it.

09/24/09 09:36 AM #250

Rusty Brackett

Remember Bethel but not the cheese incident.

Other former classmates
Jerry Anderson (called him Danny Earl)
Jared French
Steven Curry
Jeff Culverhouse
Mary Ann White
Jim McIntosh (sat with him at the state championship game)
Kelly Melton
James Grant (He and big Jeff used to arm wrestle at lunch)
Fred Hall
Stewart Ackle? (tried to fight Mr. Schkade)
Kevin? Hollinsworth (better known as Oofus/got racked by Tracy Clark in 6th)
Demetra Emory
Candy "something" from elementary

Tonya Gracy... some the crazy stuff we did at her house ...

09/24/09 09:56 AM #252

Her dad finally made their mailbox removable. He would put it in the back of his truck at night so it wouldn't get destroyed.
