Derrick Hagler

So what's new with this reunion?

Maybe we can plan a meeting for anyone that would like to have input on this and get together one weekend and get this hammered out over a cocktail or two.

D.

This thing is going to happen in October....Right? Vacations are now planned so I just wanted to check one last time.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Shannon, do you have a list of places that have been contacted in regards to holding the reunion? Unless comments are being made privately I've only read "one" response even offering a location for the reunion to take place. Remembering how organized you were in school I'm certain you are on top of this. Is anyone throwing out suggestions of an actual place? If so, I'd like to be in the loop. To have it close to a "decent" hotel is going to cost how much per person? Do we want to have it somewhere that's going to cost too much for some and too little for others? Just a suggestion, maybe those of us who want to attend the reunion reply as to how far they are willing to drive and/or how much they are willing to pay to make it happen..Personally if it was at the "Craps Barn" I'd go in a heartbeat! I might have to pass if it's at the Anatole in Dallas and try to convince Cooper to cook burgers at his house.

Bill Bates Ranch in Celina, has anyone called them? I don't know how far north the Dallas Tollway goes now but that might be an option since Celina is on the west side of 75.

Wow! I'm just now getting on here! This is so cool! Hello everyone!!! I don't care where or when we have the reunion...just let me know! I'll make a point to be there...I can't wait to see everyone!! Let's make it fun one more time!

My Uncle has a restuarant/hotel in downtown McKinney called Rick's Chop House. However, there is a 3,000.00 minimum to reserve the room there! So much for being family and getting a deal! Anyway, just an idea! However, I still think Cynthia's idea was the best thus far!

well, hey everyone! guess i'm kinda late gettin on this thing but i am so excited! i don't care when or where we have it - i missed the first one so i will make sure i don't miss this one. Can't wait to see everyone again! Let me know if I can be of any help... See Ya!

I've got a question for everyone. What sort of price range would everyone like to see? We could have a four course meal for around 32 bucks per person plus a premium bar package around 28 dollars per person. So around 60 bucks per person. Although a night out with a meal plus bar tab for 60$ might be cheap to some, others might not enjoy 'having' to pay that much for drinks if they even drink at all. Personally, I don't drink like that any more but some might or might like the option.

It makes no difference to me in any way, shannon is paying for me. Good luck with the plans.

Just a thought here and you can tell I'm a master at delegating....Shannon, would you want to quickly tap several people to be on a "scouting" committee for the place so we can get it reserved asap? I'd say that so far, you, Beau, Michelle and Cynthia seem to have a handle on what may be available in the area. That could be the start. I'm all for the more informal, intimate arenas myself. You all could get things boiled down to what's available on the date we're looking at and then maybe throw out your two top locations that the committee would recommend. Then we could either informally weigh in or vote like you had us do when we were nailing down the date...I'd love it if we had something where we could meet everyone's families and kiddos either on the Friday before or for a lunch on the day of the reunion, too. Let me know if I can help out.

Cynthia Craddock (Clark)

I will be attending my husband's 20 year reunion next weekend and the planning committee had a difficult time trying to collect money from people, so what they ended up doing was: Friday night is meet & greet with families & bring a refreshment to share (they are meeting at a museum in one of the banquet rooms), Saturday they will meet at a state park again with the family & lunch is on their own, kids can swim or play rec sports, etc.....Saturday night a banquet room at a restaurant is reserved for the 1989 class with option of buffet or can order from the menu.
Not sure how responses are but wanted to share this tidbit of information, in case we may end up having to go this route.
I personally dont drink, but will go with the majority on whatever is decided, to me $60 per person is not too much. Will we have to pay a deposit for the use of the facility or have planning gotten that far yet????

06/10/09 04:31 PM #39

Derrick Hagler

Good info Cynthia. Do we have any real number of those that may attend? If dinner is what the majority wants then we will have to reserve a banquet room at a resturant. As Beau has pointed out they usually require a deposit or a guaranteed minimum of $3000 to get us in the $60 ballpark.
If it only gonna be 30-40 people we might as well have a bbq at someones house. Obviously not a large enough class to have a 3 day event as others have.
Also as we all know, the more you plan a party the more likely you are to be disappointed with the results.
I know everyone has a busy schedule but we really need to get together at this "meeting" I've heard about and get this all behind us.

I will gladly help have a very family friendly party, cost free if that is what we want to do friday night if that will help keep the cost down and let us have a "adult" and a family event for the weekend.

I would have to do this friday night and not saturday during the day, but again, happy to have derricks, bbq so everyone who wants to get together can.

BTW there's a joke in there somewhere Beau!

I uploaded two photos from the 10 year reunion. I used the photo booth on this new laptop so the quality is pretty bad. Check my profile.

Shannon White (Caldwell)

Hi there,

Never fear, we are still gathering intel and proposals from area venues. Beau and I are currently focused on the Saturday evening "banquet" and booking the facility ASAP. More to come on that.....

If someone else would like to tackle the Friday night shin-dig, I'm more than happy to delegate (Nicole, I'm taking a page from your book.)

As far as the venue is concerned and the deposit, I hope to use some of my connections to help with that. A $3K deposit is NOT required of any venue--maybe $500 or a third down. However, the total $$ would be due to the venue the day of the event and a final head count is required 3-4 days prior.

Right now finding a great place is in our favor because so many places/people are NOT doing events due to the economy.

Rusty: Do you remember what the total cost ran for the 10-year? And what we paid per person? That will be helpful.

More to come......

20 YEARS--20 RANDOM THINGS:

The game has begun here. RULES: Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note in the Message Forum with 20 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose someone else from the reunion website to be tagged.

1. I love freshly baked choc chip cookies because their warm and gooey. Hard crispy cookies suck.
2. I hate mayonnaise/miracle whip.
3. I'm a shoe whore.
4. I have a huge crush on John Cusack and fantasize about meeting him.
5. I now wear glasses when working on the computer which means I wear glasses most of the day and night.
6. I read the entire Twilight series in less than a month. Some pages are warped from reading in the bath tub. I reread the last book while I was sick.
7. Which might mean I have a yen for vampires. I loved the Buffy and Angel tv series. I've seen Van Helsing, Underworld and Twilight. I've now added True Blood to my list of favorite vampire shows.
8. You never know when love is going to strike or if you'll have the chance to pursue it. Sometimes it leaves you breathless in its magnitude. Sometimes it leaves you breathless in its pain.
9. I have Nintendo Wii and am constantly surprised by how sore it makes me.
10. I love decorating and feng shui.
11. Everyone should have girlfriends where you pick them up at 3 a.m., bail them out of jail, sit in the jail cell with them, or help them bury the bodies.
12. I was never very athletic/coordinated before yoga. When I practice my body drifts into a natural beautiful rhythm. I believe yoga was a part of me far earlier than I became a part of yoga.
13. I am not a vegetarian. I love a greasy cheeseburger and french fries as much as the next girl.
14. I used to have panic attacks.
15. If I could get a job there, I'd move to Florida and the beach in a heart beat.
16. I've moved 17 times in 18 years.
17. Manicures, pedicures and massages should be compulsory tasks like brushing your teeth and combing your hair.
18. Not everyone appreciates my sarcastic sense of humor.
19. The older I get the less I care what others think or about softening the blow of honesty. The closer to 40 I get the more I call 'em like I see 'em.
20. I'm only OCD about pictures. on the wall they have to hang straight. sitting in the shelf they have to be angled just right. i notice immediately when they're not.

Beau....tag!

1. I've named all my vehicles. My current truck is named Corrine.
2. I hate making up random lists. (damn you Shannon!)
3. I've made it from Vegas to Dallas in 22 hours on a motorcycle.
4. I hardly ever make a dish the same way twice and it drives my wife crazy.
5. I wake up with a different song in my head each morning. Today it was some Journey song and I don't even own any of their music.
6. I've recently become obsessed with govt cover-up stories.
7. I graduated 1st in my class at the Fire Academy.
8. I once went a week without saying a word to anyone.
9. I like driving through 'the square' whenever I get a chance to make it back to the 'ville and I get nostalgic for all those times spent hanging out there in high school.
10. I wake up often and see spiders dangling above my head, my wife loves when that happens.
11. I have a hard time saying no to anyone.
12. I thought I knew what love was until my son was born then my whole perspective on the matter change and I realized that I had known nothing about love prior to that moment.
13. My dream job is owning a vineyard and making wine.
14. Back in college, I would give plasma twice a week so that I would have money to eat. And giving plasma always made me super hungry so I would blow it on one huge meal right after.
15. My first crush was Ms. Hunt in kindergarten and I still have a crush since seeing her a few years ago.
16. I once had a roommate that was the main suspect in the dissapearance of his girlfriend. He was an ex-Army Ranger and I still believe that he did it.

Shannon

I found what we mailed out to all of the classmates in 1999. $50.00 per person/$100.00 per couple. I haven't been able to find the information about the cost of the ballroom, DJ, and buffet.

Hello everyone, and hagler.

Wanted to see what people thought of this idea for friday night. I will host a family, kids included, everyone welcome party at my house friday night. It may be too cold to swim, but i can heat the pool if people want to do that. I have a fairly large house, big backyard, basketball etc and it will work for the number of people we have. I can cater food (probably just bar bq) or something easy and have a couple hours of getting to see everyone and their kids that night cost free. Something like 7-9 pm.

Beau, Shannon, you are more than welcome to come on over and check it out to see what you think, or anyone else for that matter, come on over have a beer and we can catch up.

If people wanted to go out after that there are plenty of places close that would work. Happy to suggest a few if you would like.

I live in Frisco, 6385 Haley Way, 75034, if you want to map it to see how far it is from you.

You will not hurt my feelings if you think this is the worst idea you have ever heard, so please feel free to voice your opinion. I can handle the criticism :), trying to float some options that are low cost and work for everyone including those who want to get the kids together.

Let me know what you think.
