Steve Pedone

Following graduation from Fayetteville Senior High in 1962, I attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and graduated in the Class of 1966. I also received an US Air Force Commission as a Second Lieutenant, and began my 25 year career in the US Air Force. I served around the world in Intelligence, Mapping, advanced weapons systems development, military operations & planning, command & control, and top-level DOD policy, often in a joint service role, and participating in many "important moments in time". My second 14 year career, as a Systems Engineer with two Defense Contractors, E-Systems, Inc. and Raytheon Corp. involved developing advanced computer-based imagery and intelligence systems for the National Intelligence Community. My careers spanned the critically important transition period, called "the digital revolution", from traditional analog systems through the very earliest digital systems and data bases supporting development and deployment of our most advanced national defense systems and weapons. Fayetteville Senior High prepared me well for this incredible opportunity and experience. I have fond memories of my classmates and teachers. This "great time" went by so quickly. Being a "Military Brat" was both a privilege and a curse! I moved from Alexandria, Virginia, to Fayetteville in '60. My most significant adjustment at FSH was going to school again with "girls". For the past three years, I had attended a boys school adjacent to the White House, in downtown Washington, DC. where we wore coat & tie! I enjoyed the change and adjusted quickly! Since I had lived in the South, in Alabama and Virginia, I quickly adopted a little of my "Southern drawl" again. Although I had a '53 Ford, I rode the school bus for two years from Fort Bragg to FSH & back every school day. As a result, there was little time for after school activities at FSH, or friendships. I felt like I fit-in well with my Fayetteville schoolmates. but I know that I miss-out on many good times and great activities with FSH friends from Fayetteville. "FSH" - A Great School, great people, and great memories! I was so lucky to have this great experience.
