I just really wanted a normal new shiny silver snare with an actual drum case like Graff had...I carried mine in a make-shift suitcase, uggg hated that! At least I had good sticks and that rubbery practice pad though.

Oh yeah, Mary - band day sophomore year. That's where we learned the MIZ-ZOU chant (only for us it was FES-TUS and/or TIG-ERS). I went to a Mizzou game last month and it happened to be high school band day...brought back memories.

Mary flute players are awesome too. You guys had to hit the high notes and cover up the clarinet players constant drone (foot in mouth). I quit band after 9th grade so not many band stories after that. Mr. Rowland was ticked because he loved my brother and wanted me to stick it out. Mr Rowland was awesome. Use to visit him all the time during college.

Steve Smith used to work with my brother at Chrysler but that was a few years ago. Not sure if he's still there and where he lives, will ask my brother.

Kim I feel your pain sister. Thank god we will have Shari's booth. Split a nickel, my drum case was a box, only had one latch that worked, dented, and had a paper clip in the hinge.

Kim sorry forgot about party places. Yes in your neighborhood or at least a 5 mile radius. Shit I partied everywhere.

Don't worry, I quit band after my sophomore year. Thought that doing stats for the football team was more important. Now that I look back I realize that it was stupid decision. Oh well, life does go on!

Kim-What is your brother up to? I found a picture of him from Jr. Prom with his date. It seems that I had a lot of picture of couples that I took...

My flute was a 20 year old borrowed one that I had to return to the owner when I quit. Parents couldn't afford a new one so I had to use the hand me down. Guess I will have to get in line at Shari's booth too!

OK when you think of all the band members what is the first thing that comes to mind? Ill wait for answers

Bill, thanks for sharing about your drum case too. Good to know I wasn't the only one. I quit band after 10th grade too. Was busy with working at the fabulous Burger King and well, I guess being at the Crystal games on Friday nights was a little more important to me than the Festus games at that time.

I almost think I resembled that remark about the clarinets, Bill. I don't remember how it was I played that inst. I liked other ones better. Switched to alto clarinet in concert band. That was different more like the sax.

Bill ~ Ummm, the ugly band uniforms? Or band camp maybe?

10/23/08 09:38 PM #90

Mary Branson (Coleman)

I'd have to agree about the band uniforms. They were ugly and very unflattering!

Suzi where you been hiding. Glad not offended by clarinet joke, should delete it before Gina hops on board.

Kim Gibson (Earney)

Mary, really? I thought I was the only one with hand me down instrument and that everyone else had shiny new ones. I'll never understand how all the non-drummers could march and read their music at the same time.

Hi Suzi, will you make it Saturday?

10/23/08 09:41 PM #93

Billy Evans

My first thought is always little Mikey Wolk on that big ole tuba. Sweet.

Please dont mention "flute" and "band camp" on the same posts. Mary, noone is immune to a joke on the forum

Mary, my brother Kenny is in Sullivan and works for Chrysler. Or were you talking about the other brother, Larry G? He's in Pevely or someplace like that, probably drinking beer after beer after beer...

Oh, wait I just read your post again. Guess you would have been talking about Ken since you mentioned Jr. Prom. I need to pay more attention.

March and read music at the same time? Learned some songs by memory because we played them so much (Eye of the Tiger still brings back high school football) or learned to fake it and let the really good players take over!

Mary Branson (Coleman)

Kenny kept his job? He sure was lucky. My friend's husband took the buyout at the mini-van plant last year.

Wasn't it at Larry's house that we played quarters on one New Year's Eve?

Ahhh....marching band. anyone remember Herb McCartney? sub for Mr Roland? He had that stupid pitch tuner that he would hit on his hand and put on his ear. I remember Shelly Nall and I got a peice of fake poop from Spencers and put it on his conductor's stand. He kicked me out our freshman year. I flunked band. booohoooo.

oh. he also asked Rob Pryor if he had diarrhea of the mouth on day.

Oh, yeah New Years at the trailer in Cedar Trails...good times. It was so cool to have an older brother who would buy our liquor. He would always lecture me on what to say if I got caught with alcohol, "No officer, it was just a homeless guy outside the convenience store who bought these wine coolers for us". And then there was my mom who always offered to let us drink ~ as long as we were staying home where she could keep her eye on us...like that would have been a ball of fun, I'm so sure.

Shari You rocked at saxophone! Not so good on drums though. I sucked at saxophone.

10/23/08 09:55 PM #100

Mary Branson (Coleman)

Kim-Your mom offered to let you drink at home? So did mine with the same condition, as long as you stay at home! That was so much fun... LOL

Shari in case you missed it my first thought when band is brought up...little Mikey Wolk on tuba. Yes I remember sub, you brought that up way back but noone commented. Didnt he get so po'd one day he actually left the class and didnt come back. Poor guy.

10/23/08 09:57 PM #102

Billy Evans

You mean we had classmates that drank in high school (gasp). Doc and I sure did miss out.

Billy - Mikey Wolk on Tuba was awesome!!! That was fun. He could really play that think too. Where is he anyway?
