After graduation, I went to ISU and graduated with a BS in Elementary Education. Shane DeHaan and I had a very short marriage after dating through high school and college. We moved to Liberty, Missouri where I taught 4th grade for 4 years. I worked toward a Masters in Library Science at CMSU but did not continue my education after I moved to Texas. I taught 4th grade one year in Texas and then went on to be an elementary school librarian for 4 more years, until I became a full time wife and mother-- my favorite job yet! Duane and I were married in 1998. We live in Allen, Texas with our two precious blessings, Mollie and Olivia. I am hoping to come to the reunion. I will have to see as time gets closer if I can work out the logistics of it all! Hoping to see you all in August!
Driving up to Iowa over the past two days, I have been thinking a lot about some of my favorite memories....
Band trips were tons of fun and some of my favorite memories! Florida, Dallas, even Minneapolis to go to the Chanhassen. (I actually take my girls to the Dallas Arboretum a few times a year, and that was one of the places we performed.) It felt so grown up to go on fun trips with my band friends. Lots of memorable moments from those trips!
Band was a big highlight-- marching band, flags, competitions, just hanging out in the band room. (I actually have a re-occurring dream still that I cannot remember my combination for my band locker and cannot get my clarinet out!)
Other trips too-- like going to Washington DC with Mr. Carr and to DMACC for a French lunch with Madame Walker-- my first (and only!) time to try caviar and escargot!
The dances-- proms, homecomings, and TWIRPS. The smell of roses still makes me think of bouteniers (sp?) and wrist coursages at formals. Those were always very special! I have some of my dresses still in the attic waiting for my girls to get a bit bigger to play dress up!
Lots of parties-- Halloween, Christmas, New Years, Birthdays, Graduations, Amy J's baby sister's shower-- any excuse to get together with great friends!
Our exchange students-- in fact, I still keep in touch with two of the three! Carolyn almost came from Australia for her reunion a few years ago. She visited me for about 3 weeks in Dallas shortly after Duane & I were married.
Synchronized swimming-- and when we gave Mrs. Cullen the ring the last year she coached us. Different songs I hear still make me think of some of my "routines".
Just the every day stuff-- lunch time with friends in the cafeteria, hearing different songs that cause me to recall memories, different memories of funning things happening in class-- (Like Mr. Long being very upset because he ordered "skinned cats" and the cats arrived with fur! The witch trials with Mr. Leuhmkulh, trying to get Madame Walker off the lesson by telling us about Paris...), going to basketball games, the musicals on my birthday because so many of my friends were involved, weekend fun, the list goes on and on...
I have lots of fond FDSH memories!! Most of all I am just grateful for the happy experience with great friends!
