In 8th grade Math, I sat in the front row with John Bouley next to me. I was too busy trying to stop John from bugging the crap out of me on a daily basis to get involved with the classroom chaos. I still have the lead pencil mark in my right thigh where John poked me with his pencil. I did get in trouble that day for yelling at John. I believe Joel kicked my desk for my outburst.

As far as I remember "Tet" was the nickname given to Mr. Theriault our English teacher because he liked the girls so much. Elaine Thibeault once dubed the Martin brothers as: "The Bobsy Twins, Rosie and Josie"

Yea Clay, remember Mr Joel Martin's math class, where he would be writing on the chauk board and had to wipe off the spit balls that were buttered on it.
We use to have him right after lunch and he would walk it with a coffee cup.....and put it on this deck. There was always someone droping something in his coffee.

I had to sit in the back to separate two of the biggest
trouble makers in the class. I saw lots. I remember
the spitting the coffee and him drinking it (not knowing
what had happened). Also him sitting on a tack that some-
one had placed on his chair. Luckily for him, it went up
the middle and he didn't get hurt.

Speaking of Mr. Theriault our 8th grade English teacher...does any one remember when he gave this extremely difficult test that only had a few questions to it and as the classes were going in to take the test, every one came out saying how difficult it had been and that the majority had failed it. Even our 8th grade genius's had border line passed it. Certain individuals came out at recess time and decided to share the answers with the kids that had yet to take the test and wrote the answers on their hands, many of them from my classroom. I'll never forget as Mr. Theriault is receiving the finished tests that were coming in, he suddenly stood up and said "I don't know what's going on in here but I have 6 or 7 individuals that got the test 100% correct and considering what the average score has been, this test will not be counted." To think as bad as the scores had been that we would have thought to do this and get away with it. I remember getting a score of 55 and I had the answers on my hand! I didn't have the guts to lift my hand to look at them!!

I don't remember that test Mr. Theriault gave, but I remember another time when we were given by one of the teachers, it could have a practice for the school spelling bee and the word was "bicyle" and the world was right in front of us, it was the manufacturer of our desks. I believe every body got it right except the not to smart in the front rows and that too, may have circulated the hallways and school yard.

Another time when we could'nt go out in Priscilla Daigle's fifth grade class, we were playing "hangman", she had put up this 12-letter word, all of the common letters were said and used up and she nearly "hung us" when I announced that I knew it, everybody was in disbelief and she too looked puzzled and asked me what it was and after I announced the word E-N-C-Y-C-L-O-P-E-D-I-A, and she then proceeded to announce "Correct", everbody was in shock and asked how I got it right. I showed them the trusty "World Book Encylopedia I had on my desk that I had borrowed for an in class assignment.

All I know for sure is a few year after high school I was coming back from Canada and Joe T was on custom duty (lucky me). He look at me and said - you still have that smile - then informed my mother that the whole class and YOUR DAUGHTER gave him a hard time. Boys were we bad - but hell - we had a good time!

Does anyone remember 7th grade Math teacher, Roland "Big Hands" Collins? (FKES) He loved to tell us tales about as a kid he would astonish folks with his unusually large hands? Remember the story about scaring off his first date when she saw his hands? (Makes me think of the Seinfeld episode of Jerry's big hand girlfriend.)

Remember the perpetual crease in his necktie? (His favorite necktie had a crease running lengthwise that was there from the beginning of the year to the end of the school year):)

Whoa...interesting things that you all remember so clearly. I have no real recollection of any teacher's names unless they were good teachers or they did something extremely mean or stupid. i always felt extremely bad about how we treated Mr. Martin in Math.....disgusting spitballs, spitting in his coffee, ex-lax, and I too am amazed that he did not have a visible break-down. I remember Mrs. Malmborg and how she challenged us to think; Mr. Paradis and his never-ending patience and delight when we got something. Mr. Paul and his bizarre hairdo and need to act cool and try to get along with the kids; I remember being constantly harassed by Kevin Daigle, poking me in the back, snapping a bra strap -- we have since met and laughed about those times. I remember one young nun in Jr High that was a baseball fanatic and we got some good games going at recess...she'd belt one and run the bases in her habit. Alan, do you remember her name?? Everyone has beautiful kids and grandkids.....done many interesting things (Diane B --looked at your chocolate site; Susan Barry - I recognize your dad, and you son has a set of pipes!;) I have had to go back to look at pics in my yearbook to fully remember what each person looked like and connect them to certain events. we sure did party a fair amount in HS - something I'm thinking about every day as I discuss it with my now 20 year old son. I remember Winter Carnival, boys soccer being intense, donkey basketball, dances, Crocker Beach, ...................keep it all going. I'm anxious to see everyone as I have had very limited contact over the years -- 30 to be exact??!! GULP! Lisa Daigle

I can remember comparing my hands in seventh grade with Mr. Collins and it almost seemed very large compared to mine after all I was no giant and still not LOL LOL LOL LOL.

Lisa, in response to the identity of the nun, her name was Sr. Ouida (I am spelling her last name phonically) Mazzocelli, she was so shy she would blush it seemed if you were thinking about her, if you look at our 8th grade yearbook she is blushing. I later heard she left the religous life and got married.

Diane...I ran into him too at custom's in 2001 in my 1st visit to Ft. Kent in many years with my husband and 2 young kids at that time. I was SO shocked to see him there. Had no idea what route he had taken after the year of hell for him. I saw him and in shock said...do you remember me? I was in your math class years ago? He was nice and gracious and we small talked then my husband & he suddenly struck up a conversation about government salary grade etc etc. since they were some what both in the same field. He was open and so nice.
Lisa Daigle, I love hearing the positive's of our early childhood education...let's hear more! How about Jim Marquis?? What a cool & nurturing teacher. He was so down to earth and easy to talk to in high school. Any one remember??

01/25/09 11:17 PM #71

Allen J. Voisine

Gloria, I remember JimmmyJo (as he called himself) for his keen sense of humor. His tricky multiple choice tests and the choices he gave us, one was way of the wall, the correct one, one sounded like the correct one, and a close one. Do you remember what CCNG stood for?

Dennis, do you remember the commerical that were assigned to write and record in 7th grade with Theresa Dumond as our reading teacher. I had wrote it and it was based on the premise of asking a dog on his opinions on what he thought of the dog food being sold. I can remember that one of the dog's I interviewed (you) sounded like J J on the Good Times TV show and you responsed D-Y-N-O-M-I-T-E! If I remember correctly we aced the assignment.

I remember Mrs. Claire Martin. She had us play charlemagne?
to learn body systems.
Sr. Margaret had us break up into teams and compete with
each other to learn grammar(?). Patrick Daigle had designed
panels that would light up when you signaled that you had
the answer.
My favorite high school teacher was Mr. Carbone (accounting)
My biggest regret us never taking music in school. I would
have loved to have learned an instrument--clarinet.

I wish I could go back to the free driver ed classes. I
think it's going to cost $500 to sign Robin up for driving--
and to think that we had it for free. We really did have a
great school. We had so many opportunities with the univ.
so close by and all the extra-curricular activities available. I don't think our school ever really worried
about budget crunches and all the things that plague schools
nowadays. It was a good time to grow up.

Hello Bernice,
Your favorite teacher was one of my least. I can remember in Business Law it was loud with all the chatter in class and I was the desk in front of his and I lifted my hand and asked him if he spoke French and he gave me my only detention in high school for talking out of turn. When I tried to dispute it with Mr. "Tricky Dick" Pelletier, he said he had to back the teachers"

I remember when I had Driver's Ed and it was my driving day turned to drive was a cold, sub zero day like today and Lloyd Bonenfant had blasted me totally with this concoction of some of his Mom's old perfume right before I went to drive and Audibert first thing did and said before anything was to open a crack in his window and said "Boy Miss Voisine you smell bad this morning." I'm surprized that all of us didn't pass out in the car. One good thing about having Lloyd as my Master, we had all the same classes except Driver's Ed.

I was also partner that year to Lloyd that in Practical E & E and one day I dropped a electronic component and the soldiering iron was on the edge of our work station and when I came backup I had singed one of my ears.

I enjoyed Mr. Marquis. I enjoyed dissecting the cat and other creatures. He was a great teacher. I learned alot from him even though he was not a very strict teacher. He was fun but also very interesting. Of course, I like science anyway so it was easy for me to keep focused. My least favorite subject was history. To this day, I still cannot get interested in history/social studies. It's funny to read on here what memories certain people have. They have impressed us for life.

Clair - dissecting cats - oh my - I am so glad that I took business courses! But my best teacher was Sr. Ouida - - She was great and made everyone feel important. This is one teacher - I actual did homework for and made the honor roll in her class. She is no longer a nun - got married - and has children!

Finally checking in on the forum and noticed the comments about Joel Martin. I HATED 8th grade! Joel and Rosaire are BOTH my uncles. I was even in Joel's homeroom. I can tell you that after Joel's first and final year of teaching, he worked as an immigration officer in FK until his retirement (2 years ago). We often talked about his year of teaching. Yes, he knew what was going on...although he had a hearing aid he chose to ignore what was happening. Unfortunately having his older brother walked down the halls actually made it more difficult. He is a very kind and soft spoken person and teaching Junior High was NOT for him. He did tell me that the jokes/spit balls didn't bother him but someone stealing his watch (a wedding gift was his wife) did.

Rosaire retired several years ago but spent hours and hours as an EMT for the hospital and taking care of his wife, Claire. Claire was diagnosed with MS in her 50's and is currently unable to live at home. She is currently residing at Forest Hill Nursing Home.

I also remember how "easy" it was to convince Mr. Collins to tell us stories. He would pull up his chair and tell stories all period. Does anyone else remember doing multiplication with "Bones"?

Loved Sr. Ouida in 6th grade but NOT in 8th! She was mad at the class one day and started yelling. She said she did not like my SMIRK and made me copy from the dictionary for 2 recesses. I was SO insulted!

One of my funniest memories was taking my Driver's Test
in Jeff Harvey's flame car with the skeleton head wearing
a helmet. You should have seen the look on the Examiners
face. Unfortunately, I didn't pass that time.

Bernice, he probably thought you were the last girl in the world to have that type of car, ha ha.

Does anyone remember Mark Roy's Ford Galaxy 500 with the huge Joint painted on the side of his car. I thought Duty Michaud would take us to jail when he saw us drive thru town.. LOL

Jeff Harvey's car (the one I used for my drivers test)
had a great big joint on the left side. I wonder if
this is the car you're talking about.

My best remembrance of the old convent school was climbing
the ladder to go out the window during fire drills in the
first grade. Do you remember that they used to put food
coloring in the bread to make it look more appealing (I
guess). If you were caught chewing gum, the 2nd grade
teacher(?) would make you wear it on the tip of your nose.
I think I'm remembering correctly.
