50TH REUNION NEWSLETTER
July 2012
REUNION HIGHLIGHTS
The 50th Reunion of Stranahan High School’s class of 1962 was an event to be remembered! On the weekend of June 8 and 9, 2012, 165 classmates and their guests arrived at the Bahia Mar Resort across from Ft. Lauderdale Beach to renew old friendships and celebrate a milestone in their lives. We were so very pleased with the wonderful turn out. We even had two classmates who traveled from other countries. Steve Migden came all the way from England and Sue McDevitt came from Mexico. Your interest and participation made the reunion even more special to all of us. For those of you that were unable to attend and those who could not attend all of the events, a brief recap of the weekend events is presented here for your enjoyment.
HOSPITALITY SUITE
The hospitality suite was a gathering place for classmates during the weekend. Classmates were welcomed with a gift bag, an oldies music cd, and the reunion book. Snacks and drinks were provided for all. The hospitality suite was filled with old editions of the Echo, yearbooks, display boards, a map where classmates were located and much more. This was a great place for people to catch up with “old” friends. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped in the hospitality suite.
STRANAHAN TOUR
A tour of Stranahan High School was the first event of the reunion. Dr. Dorantes, Assistant Principal of our alma mater, guided the tour down “memory lane” for over 70 people. This proved to be an outstanding addition to the reunion weekend.
FRIDAY NIGHT PARTY
Due to inclement weather the Friday night meet and greet was held in one of the ballrooms of the hotel instead of poolside. It was probably a blessing for those not accustomed to the hot Florida weather. It was deemed another great success. With oldies music playing in the background, hot hors d’oeuvres being served, and beverage service we had another opportunity to visit with long, lost friends and meet some who were just acquaintances who we wish we would have known better in high school.
MEMORIAL SERVICE
The memorial service for our deceased classmates was conducted by our own Father Richard Lopez. Over 130 people attended the service that was held at the hotel. Father Lopez delivered a wonderful, uplifting message and 94 names of those that had passed away were read by classmates. Photographs of those classmates were beautifully displayed for us to remember them as they were in high school. After the service we had an opportunity to visit over coffee, donuts and bagels. It was a very special time for all of us.
SATURDAY NIGHT PARTY
The buffet and dance held Saturday night was a gala event. The ballroom was beautifully decorated with orange and blue balloons, banners, flower arrangements, and unique table decorations. Our class president, Tom Booher, all the way from Oregon, welcomed the classmates. There was a slide show with photographs and music from our high school years. A photo booth helped capture memories with friends. We were amazed to see all the “old folks” dancing to the oldies. They still had it in them!
GROUP PHOTO
The group photograph is great. Considering the size of the group, almost all faces can be seen. You can look at the group photo at the following website: www.middleriverarts.com. Click on “Galleries” and then click on “Stranahan Reunion.” When prompted for a password, enter: classof62dl You can download it yourself or order a professional one from the photographer. This information is also in the reunion book on the photographer’s ad page. We hope to have an identification key for you soon (matching the faces with the names.)
REUNION BOOK
If you have found an error regarding your information in the reunion book please call, send an email, or mail a correction to Rindy or Rosalie. If you have any information about any of the missing classmates listed in the Reunion Book please forward it to one of the committee members listed in the newsletter.

REUNION BOOKS AND DVDS FOR PURCHASE
Revised Reunion Books and DVDs will be available for purchase. Perhaps some of those classmates who were unable to attend the reunion would like to have a copy of the book with the addresses of the people who were located (approximately 480.) The Reunion Book also includes the photographs of the classmates who are deceased. Anyone that would like to purchase one or more of these items please fill out the enclosed form in the newsletter and return it along with a check to the address provided on the form. The reunion book will have photos from the 50th reunion and any address changes that are provided to the committee (these changes need to be sent in immediately). The DVD is the slide show that was shown during the Saturday night party. For those of you who were not at the party, the slide show consists of photographs and music from our high school years. We hope to add snapshots that were taken at the reunion to the DVD. If you have any photos that you would like to include in the DVD please mail or scan them to Rindy Ward Chamberlin at bchambe1@verizon.net. Please send or scan them right away. Also, identify the people in the photograph.

THE “FIRST” NEWSLETTER
We are new at the newsletter business so bear with us as we make this attempt to keep in contact with our newly found classmates. Suggestions are welcome. There are thoughts about asking classmates to submit a BRIEF biography. These could be added randomly to each edition of the newsletter. We would like to keep classmates up to date on important announcements. Our thoughts are to put the newsletter out 2-3 times a year. Are you one of those people who prefer a hard copy as opposed to an email? Please let us know. Of course it would save us money if we send you the newsletter by email but we want to make sure that you get it. It seems like quite a few emails end up in junk mail. For those who do not use email we are happy to use the US mail. Please pass on any news that you think would be of interest to our classmates.

THE NEXT REUNION?
So, when will we plan the next reunion? Good question!!! We are thinking that 5 years sounds like a long way off. Perhaps we might want to think earlier. We will let you know what kind of feed back we receive from you, the class members. Early June seemed to be a difficult time for a lot of people because of grandchildren graduating, dance recitals, and weddings. Maybe another time of the year would be better for most people.

THANK YOUS
The committee appreciates the many thank you notes we received about the 50th Reunion. Yes, it was a labor of love by the whole committee. When we took on this task we had no idea what it involved. Now that we have found a large majority of the classmates and know what we are doing, planning another one should not be nearly as difficult. We have a challenge to find about 100 missing classmates. Thank you to those classmates who made a donation to help make our 50th Class Reunion a huge success.

GET TOGETHERS IN FLORIDA
There are some areas in Florida that have quite a few classmates living nearby. Look in your reunion book and see if you might want to start a lunch group or the like. I believe that a group is doing that in Lauderdale already. Contact Rosalie Hills Wheatley for the Lauderdale information.
