OK!  Who remembers this?  And please correct me if I'm wrong.

"THIS IS MRS. BARR'S LITTLE BABY BOY, 195 POUNDS OF JIVE AND JOY, SAYIN' BE YOU ROUND OR BE YOU SQUARE, WE GOT SOUND TO ROCK A BEAR...............................

AND AS THE SATELLITE CIRCUMVENTS THE HORIZON, YOURS TRULY HANGS ON TO THE TAIL OF A MUSICAL BEAT, AND THE SPACE AGE CARRIES ON."

Awesome!  It wasn't WIRA, but the other radio channel out on Angle Road.

Hey Mike. Wasn't it Jimmy Barr (he played all the best songs). I think it used to be WARN at one time but I think it changed its affiliation didn't it? So long ago, my memory is not the greatest right now. (I used to live close to the station and walked to it alot when I was young. (the good ole days!)

Michael Ruskin

You are correct, Anita, it was Barr, not Brown, (I must have a different "Brown" on my mind).  Yes, I remember listening to him late at night on a little transistor radio, remember them?  Several years ago when he passed, we somehow got the news all the way up here.  From what I understand it was QUITE the funeral.  And I agree, he did play the best music for an AM station.

Mike,

Jimmy Barr was the DJ on WOVV!

Hi, Pam,

Yes, he may have moved to WOVV (FM) after I was long gone.  But, in the late 60's he was at WARN (West Angle Road Network).  And as I recall, WOVV bought WIRA (FM) in the late 70's, took down the tower and moved to Martin County.  So, it is entirely possible that he worked for both stations.

I just remember the time when David Dean was working for WIRA (AM) in the early 70's, a hurricane was approaching and the guy on the FM side was too stoned to get out the message.  Good Times!

Take care, Mike

Bravo................my brain hurts  hahahah......yeah i remember WARN...wow you guys are good.   WQAM was the one we listened to at the beach.  Do you all remember the tone they used every 30 minutes........time to turn?  hahahah  You would see everyone turn over.

We had no troubles did we.  Well in my world I didn't.  How lucky we were to not have to go home to eat during the day.  We would pick all kinds of good fruit and drink out of hoses and keep on playing.

Pinewood park....a magical dreamland.

That's a shame about the b-day party, I was really looking forward to that.

Has the Class of 69 turned into a bunch of old "party poopers"?

Jackie, are you still planning to make the trip?  If so, we will get the gang together and party anyhow.  It will be the "Anti-Aging Party".  haha!  Who is in?

I was also disappointed.  Not sure what happened.  It certainly wasn't the cost.....free.

Hi Jimmie Anne, do you have a list of the ones who did respond to the birthday party? Maybe we can still celebrate with everyone that was interested. What do you think? (Mike, I agree with you!) We need to PARTY while we are still able! lol

03/28/11 01:34 PM #371

Jimmie Anne Nourse (Haisley)

Lois Walters Gordy was keeping the list.  We are probably going to have a get together at Archie's.  We are considering noon or around 5:30.  Which do you prefer?  Same date as before.

Brenda Eller (Allen)

Donnie & I would like to get together with anyone that would like to celebrate before the cruise, and we would also like to take the bus down to Miami instead of driving.  Hope everyone is doing fine, please keep us informed.  We are looking forward to the festivities.

Jackie, behave!  What are you going to make, can we cook at your sister's/mom's house?

I like the hours of the party 6 to 9.  Coincidence, I think not.

Jimmie Anne, I have more 1960's CD's than we could play in 3 hours, I'll bring them down.

Good Morning Classmates,

Glad to see that we are getting a pretty good response to our party on May 21st.  It should be a fun time and it's always great to see our classmates.  Hope more can join us.

Hugs to all and look forward to seeing you soon.  Linda

Tena Zaring (Pottorff)

Hi Everyone...just to let you know, my husband, David Pottorff, class '66, had a heart attack on Saturday.  He is at Lawnwood hospital and is responding well to treatment.  He was spending time doing what he loves 2nd best (me being 1st) working with the Boy Scouts at the fairgrounds.  Be kind to your loved ones, as there was absolutely no warning!  Always been in good health.   Tena (Zaring) Pottorff

Michael Ruskin

Thank you, Rick and Jimmie Anne for providing a wonderful venue for our party.  I'm certain everyone had a great time, there was plenty of food and no fights broke out (ha-ha).  Thank you also to the alumni committee for getting the wheels in motion for this event and for future events.  Ours is the first class I know of that keeps meeting on such a regular basis.

Also, many thanks to your staff, Casey and Chris, they were the best and worked their butts off to make everything perfect.  (You need to give them a raise.)

Jackie, as always, was "Miss Congeniality" and I know she had a great time.  I must say seeing Kathy Walker was a pleasant surprise; she is still as cute as she was at White City; but, I did miss seeing others (who will remain nameless) that normally attend our functions.  Maybe, we will see them in the future, before the wedding, (nudge, nudge, wink, wink).

To all the "cruisers" have a great time, be safe and take lots of pictures to share with the class.

Have fun, live life, be kind, and love others, Mike

Hi Guys and Gals:

The cruisers have returned after having great cruise. Robin Blanton was the official photographer and I 'm sure he did a great job as always. I am not sure how the pictures will be posted. They all might be on the Home Page of the class Web Site or on indivuals profiles. The cruisers were Steve and Nancy Campbell,Rick and Jimmie Anne Haisley and her mom,Ford and Anita (Beaver ) Sloan,Robin Blanton and Travis ( Hallam) Lambert, Beverly Bolton, Don and Brenda (Eller) Allen,Lois (Walters) Gordy,Linda ( Walters) Hays,Denny and Anita ( Beutler ) Green, Eddie Smith and friend, Robert and Mari  Beth ( Hislop) Shearer and Pam ( Runyun) Devercelly and her mom. I am not sure who took pictures but several people did. We had a blast and I can't remember when  I laughed so hard and often. Beverly was the adventurer and did everything from going to a garden to para-sailing. We all hope in the future more people will be able to come along on the next adventure.
