The cruise was great!  It was so fun to see classmates again & the Bahamas are so beautiful.  The para-sailing was awesome.  Not scary at all and very relaxing when you are up there in complete silence and seeing the different colors of the ocean and islands stretching into the distance.  It was a perfect vacation! Wish more of my classmates could have been there

Today, I had the most wonderful visit with Tim Heafner at Laurel Point Rehabilitation Center.  The smile on his face and the gleam in his eye when he saw me was absolutely priceless.  We talked about the recent "birthday party" and the "cruise".  He enjoyed the party and wishes he could have gone on the cruise.  Thanks to Sandy Ard for being so faithful to Tim and bringing him to the party.  Tim would love to go home but seems to accept that this is not a reality.  Tim would appreciate hearing from his classmates.  His days are long and a visit from his friends would mean so much to him.  While Tim's speech presents some challenges, one-on-one he can communicate with you.  His memory is fantastic and he mentioned numerous things that even I had forgotten.  Please, please ~ send him a note, visit him, take him for a ride, bring a t-shirt...... ~ anything to make his days brighter.  I took some cookies and candy bars and he was thrilled.   He made sure we locked them in his lock box so no one will get them!  Made me chuckle.  He shared a card that he received from Cheryl Denmark Rowe.  It was obvious that it is a treasure to him.

Lois with your permission I would like to send your note as an e-mail to classmates.  Let me know please.  You have a great heart.  That was truly wonderful

Jimmie Anne,

Please feel free to share with our classmates.  I would just love to see a generous outpouring of support for a class member who loves us all and could benefit from any kindness we might extend his way.  The gift he gave me today ~ was far greater than what I gave him.  Sure makes one stop and count their blessings!

I'm sad to report that our classmate and my best friend, David Dean, lost his wife Katie last evening after a long illness.  Hearts and prayers go out to David and his daughter.

The message forum has definitely been quiet lately!  Rick and I are just returning from 8 days with three grandsons.  We took them to the cabin for cycling, hiking, swimming...... We are exhausted. Hope all is well with everyone.

Well I am here in washington waiting for some warm weather.  Its going to be in the 40's again tonight.  I know I will probably regret saying that, so don't tell anyone I said it.  We are all great here.  I am going nutz at work as usual but I love it.  RyLea is learning to swim, Gavin turned 2 and Aubri turned 6.

I am now back in Gainesville...assisting my sister, Terry (class of 68), who was diagnosed with an unusual type of dementia (frontotemporal/semantic dementia) last year. She is losing her ability to name people, places, and things, to the degree that she occaisionally says full sentences that you have to decipher...like she asked me, "Why did you put the thing on the ceiling on the toilet seat?" She meant...why didn't you close the shower curtain. For the most part she is able to communicate better than that but in the not too distant future it will become even more common for her to not be able to find the right words. She is still very sweet and loving and I'm glad I was able to move back to Gainesville to be with her, even though it's very sad to see.

Anita Beaver (Sloan)

Yes, Vickie, that is really sad about your sister. Do they know what would cause that in someone so young? She is lucky to have you around to help her. Jimmie Anne, sounds like you had alot of fun with the grandkids, even though you were exhausted (I am sure it was a good type of exhaustion). Has anyone else been on any summer travels you would like to share? Jackie, I can't believe it is so cool where you are and we are having such hot days! Sounds like you really enjoy your grandkids too. Isn't it nice that you can "spoil" them and then send them home. Ha. Anyway, hope everyone is doing well out there. Keep in touch.

Thank you Jimmie Anne and Anita.

Anita, it is an uncommon type of dementia that strikes people ussually between the ages of 40-60 years old and rarely someone in their 20's.  In it's past history it has been misdiagnosed as a number of mental health issues but with modern technology (MRI) frontotempral dementia has a firm diagnosis...once the Dr's recognize what is really going on.  Terry's was diagnosed a year ago,  although in hindsight we can see that it started probably around 5 years ago.  There is no known cause but they say it may have a genetic component. Thanks for asking, you probably didn't think I would write a mini novel about it, ha.

Hey Vicki, thanks for sharing. That is a very scary thought, when you have no control over things that happen to your body and mind. Hope you are doing well. Keep the communication open and hopefully some of our other classmates will do the same.
