Carol Straesser Griffith

My family moved to Monticello 3 weeks after our high school graduation. For the first few years it was a lot of fun entertaining FHS classmates at 'Indiana Beach'. However, over the next 18 years the thrill of living in the same town as 'The Beach' lost much of its previous charm.

I attended Indiana University for a year & went on to graduate from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1965. Married a Monticello banker in 1966 & had 2 wonderful children. Divorced in February 1979, and the kids and I relocated to Lebanon in June of that same year. Married Glendon Griffith in 1981 - and between us, we have 5 children & 7 fantastic grandchildren. (Sadly, I lost my best friend & husband of 31 years on October 26, 2012. He was such a kind, gentle, & wonderful man!)

After 45 years of a very active & rewarding nursing career, I ended up having to retire in 2009, due to knee & back problems. Hoping that once these issues have been resolved, I will be able to return to some type of volunteer health related work. I sure miss being with, & doing for people!

As you see below, I have 3 awesome beautiful four legged 'fur' kids!

I thoroughly enjoyed my FHS school years!!! The football/basketball games; driving around the square on Friday & Saturdays; sock hops; grabbing a coke & burger at the Campus Castle; swinging on my grandmother Straesser's front porch swing chatting with her, sipping lemonade, & eating her yummy homemade cookies; going on our yearly family Memorial Day picnics at the mini park in Mechanicsburg; spending the day at the TPA park playing tennis, watching baseball games, swimming, roller skating, or just hanging out there with friends. Life seemed to be a lot simpler back them AND at a much slower pace. (Without all of our current technology devices (cell phones, computers, texting, big screen TV's with LOTS of channels, video, & handheld games, fancy/fast cars, multiple shopping malls,.... AND the list goes on & on. Back in the mid 50's & early 60's we actually had time to visit with our family and friends.)
