Brazosport High School - Freeport, TX
Class Of 1970
FUTURE GATHERING ?
55th ?
<Grab a cup of coffee, this intro letter is long.>
Several folks have sent emails or phoned me asking me about a 55th gathering.
Too many possibilities to make an extensive survey, other than the one question in this survey. [See below]
With that stated, here is a plethora of ideas that have been submitted and/or done by other classes: Keep in mind, not everyone will agree on any one thing.
<>Two day event
<>One day event
<><><>INSIDE
Inside, like the Civic Center in Lake Jackson or The River Place in Freeport [close to the high school], or the high school itself [see * below], Dido’s, etc.
Set down meal vs Hors d’oeuvre’s <> I have been to a few at the LJ Civic and River Place where a ‘set down meal’ was served.
[An advantage to the set down meal is, it gives everyone the opportunity to have 'equal' amounts of food, as opposed to running out of one or more items as has happened the last couple of gatherings with the Hors d’oeuver’s that were provided.]
A few restaurants in the area have large dining rooms, say for a Friday ‘dutch’ mixer. El Toro, Swamp Shack, LaCasona, On The River, Beachfront Bar & Grill, etc.
<><><>OUTSIDE
At a city park - there are several - Clute, Freeport, Lake Jackson, Oyster Creek, Quintana Beach Park, etc.
Catered bbq, pizza delivery, bring your own food [BBQ -seafood - Tex-Mex, etc.]
What month would be best?
Invite other classes? – Which ones? - {In September, I attended both nights of the - 68 reunion - a very enjoyable experience being one of the youngest there! There were folks from the class of 69 as well.}
WHAT OTHER CLASSES HAVE DONE
1-A while back, [pre-covid] one class had yearly gatherings at Quintana County Park, all of the cabins were rented by class members, and others brought their travel trailers, while others stayed at hotels.
*2-The classes from the 50’s have had a one day gathering in the ‘commons’ area at the high school [the school provided it for free] [Most recently October 21, 2023] – one person from each class was responsible for collecting the money from their class members to pay for food, a BBQ sandwich, chips, and drink I believe, but there are other choices as well. The school also provided a couple of custodians to keep the trash cans emptied, and the classmates all donated a few bucks for the custodians – they made out very well on that deal!
3-One class has a yearly gathering at a particular restaurant – everyone pays their own way.
4-Another class has gatherings on homecoming weekend.
These are just a few of the ideas.
IF there is sufficient interest in a gathering of some sort, it would be best to make a decision EARLY, and get the facility reserved, as they fill up fast, especially the Civic Center, River Place in Freeport, the different city pavilions, etc.
These are all ‘food-for-thought’ ideas. MANY other possibilities as exist. Probably the best way to offer your feedback, other than answering a lengthy survey, would be to make a post in the Member Forum so everyone can see all of the responses, and maybe offer still other suggestions.
I use a FREE video chat program. If anyone wants to have a video chat discussion about it [but please, still post your ideas in the forum] - no limit to the number of times you post there. Pick the date and time for a video chat, and I will see if I can arrange it. Please don't phone me or email me with ideas - please keep everything 'out in the open' for everyone to read.
Oh, I failed to mention – one class at their reunion/gathering even had a video chat with classmates who could not make it to their gathering – like those over-seas classmates.
