Hey Scott, thanks for organizing this, it's fun to see where everyone is at after 20 years! Laura Black Connell

I think we should do the reunion in stillwater on a river boat. I was just at a wedding on one and it was a total blast. I can check out the price. The one I was on did a 4 hour treck from 6 to 10 and then after that everyone just went out to the bars. SOOOO much fun!!! And we could stay at the hotels in town and they usually run shuttles to the downtown area and back for those who dont want to drive.

Heidi,
I nominate you for the chairman. :-) The river boat idea sounds great to me. Maybe a Friday afternoon, bars at night. Saturday afternoon we could do a family day at Como Park or some nice location. I'm in Virginia so I will leave the destination up to the resident Minnesotans. Anyway, keep me involved if you can, I will do what I can from here. Take care and thank you Scott for setting up the site.

Well, Mike Bjork and Laura Black said I could come even though I didn't grad from there... I'm going as Laura's date... she said her hubby has to stay home & watch the kids. Heidi's got a great idea... Stillwater is way better than hanging out at The Mermaid (Irondale's was there). Sounds like it could be a fun night.. so here's some precautions about drinking ... http://www.bannedinhollywood.com/top-10-signs-you-drank-too-much/

Merry X-mas!

Of course you can come Christine! I think anyone that attending FHS with our class for any duration would be included - am I right? The more the merrier!

I like the Stillwater idea - especially because we just moved here to Stillwater from Mpls 3 weeks ago, there are so many awesome options! I like the riverboat idea and have been on them many times for work functions and weddings (and then of course remember Prom 89?) :)

There are some pros and cons to the boat thing to consider tho - a pro would be that no one can leave the event once the boat leaves the dock, so for the 2-4 hours we're on the boat that means everyone who set sail is there for the duration! The con would be if people had limitations and needed to arrive later, or leave earlier, etc they may not be able to come. So I guess those are the things to think about.

The riverboat idea aside, Stillwater has a lot of other great options in terms of event centers/halls, bars, restaurants, etc. There are a some new wine bars and restaurants down on main street that have sprouted up in the past year or two with all the lofts and condos that have been developed by the river, and all the new developments in the area. If we did wind up doing a weekend type event like Tim suggested, there is a great park (Pioneer Park) for a family event the next day or else Como is close and a great idea too. Pioneer Park overlooks the river and has a huge kid play area, tons of picnic tables, pavillions, a small bandshell, etc. and is just a stone's throw from downtown Stillwater.

I love the Stillwater idea. The boat would be fun, though I too worry that it might eliminate some folks that needed to be late or bow out early. What month are we shooting for? I think that either June or late August would be good. Thought?

Thanks!
Peggy

What about renting a Yacht at Boom Island Park in Northeast Minneapolis? The excursions are in 3 hour intervals and there have several times we can choose from. I haven't lived in MN in a very long time but I think that we could find other activities to do after the Yacht excursion. I think selecting a location that is a little more central would be better. For those of us coming in from out of town who may just becoming for the reunion and will be there over the weekend, I say the less time driving around in a car the better.

I like Peggy's idea of Early June or Late August - won't interfere too much with summer vacations and those from out-of-state with children in school can still make it.

Audra Janiak (Brase)

How about coinciding with "fair time" (late Aug)? This will be a big event for those of us traveling from out of state so I am trying to think of ways to maximize my family's fun in Mn as long as we will travel that far. Riverboats sound great, although lake parks sound fun too. I think we should finalize dates in the next month so travel plans can start.....

I'm sure the riverboat would be fun... but it may exclude folks who want to make a short "appearance" and then bolt.

Are we any closer on a reunion date? My summer is already starting to fill. Crazy I know.

I don't know if everyone is set on a summer reunion but something to consider is getting together on the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving. A couple of friends just had their reunion over Thanksgiving weekend and it seemed to work out nicely. Any thoughts about that?

Thinking back to prom '89 I remember it being very stinky and buggy in certain spots along the river, so maybe we want to rethink the river boat ride. Nice job on the web page Scott!

I kind of like Jennifer's idea of planning something around Thanksgiving, although I live in town so whatever works better for the out-of town folks is fine with me! Late August would be good too, June always seems so busy....

Hey everyone!
Over the past few days a planning committee has been forming to get a date and venue on the calendar.

Scott has done an awesome job of getting this website up and the ball rolling in terms of dialogue but without an actual planning committee all of this great talk doesn't actually get us together :) Big thanks again to Scott!

We are getting close to having a date and a venue and taking all the input into consideration, but also looking at what makes the most sense for our class. As soon as we have the date we will post it here and communicate it via facebook, as well as for the venue.

What everyone can continue to do which would be SUPER HELPFUL is work on finding old classmates and encourage them to update their profile here as well as join facebook. With the absence of a budget likely all communications will be done electronically. If you are interested in helping plan the reunion, let me know. We're figuring out the preliminary/urgent items (date and venue) via email/facebook but will have a meeting late March or early April to delegate tasks if you'd like to attend at that time and help out.

Thanks and looking forward to seeing people this summer!

Picking a date around a holiday would be a real advantage to those of us living away from Fridley. It would save on flight costs. Just a suggestion.

Thanksgiving would work for me, time off from work and time to get there from AK.

REUNION UPDATE:

Hey Everyone!

The date / location has been set for our 20th Class Reunion -- August 22, 2009, at the Mermaid Entertainment Center in Mounds View, MN -- Pool and Dart Entertainment Room. This room was recently renovated (in the past year) and seems like it will be a fun place to spend the evening! There are pool tables, video games, dart machines, and Touch Tunes jukebox in our reserved area (all of these at our own expense). We will also have five lanes of FREE bowling available to our group for the evening.

The Reunion committee members this go-round are:
Teresa Crane Hermes, Paula Harris Kays, Stacy Skjervold, Michele Young Smith, and Julie Gageby Johnson -- Wendy Knight Duren has also offered to help from afar as much as she can.

The planning is in very early stages, so we will keep you posted as things evolve.

Looking forward to seeing all of you at the Reunion!

This sounds great - thank you to everyone getting it set up! August 22 should work just fine for me. Perhaps we should also start thinking about getting together for Homecoming too?

BTW as those of you on Facebook might have noticed I've been scanning and posting my pictures from the last reunion there. They're all up (and tagged) now, so you can view them all here.

I just found the website and the reunion info. I like the idea of planning around end of summer/fair time. Josh - the pictures of the 10 yr are great! Thanks for posting them. Looking forward to seeing everyone in August!

All,
I was talking with some other classmates and wanted to put the idea out there for a day at Como Park/Zoo on Saturday, 10am - 2pm. I think it would be a good opportunity for families to come out and spend some time together. The picnic area is free and the Zoo is a donation if my memory serves me correctly.
There will be a few of us out there and want to invite anyone else that would like to come. It's bring your own so the cost shouldn't be too much. Hope to see a few if not all of you there. I hope all is well with ya'all, take care and have a good day.

Sincerely,
Timmy Myers

I will see everyone at the Happy Hour, the picnic and of course the "main event" itself! I should be easy to spot - I'll be wearing a (different) Minnesota Swarm shirt to each event (not the jersey I'm wearing in my Facebook photo, though). And yes, I will be bringing my camera along again.

(Updated) Another reunion has come and gone... and once again another smashing job done by the organizers! The only complaint I have is the obvious one that probably gets made about every class reunion ever done everywhere - that one night was just not enough. So many old friends to catch up with, so little time. In fact, if I'm not mistaken we had a lot more people show up for the 20-year reunion than the 10-year one. I only had 22 photos from the 10-year reunion. Between Friday and Saturday I wound up with over 60 from this one, and they are all posted now, both here (on my profile page) and on Facebook. Oh, and one more small matter: As of the end of the reunion, I'll be treating six classmates (and up to two family members each) to a Minnesota Swarm home game in 2010: * Trish (Stellick) Alfaro * Theresa (Decheine) and Jamie Chatelle (OK, technically that makes it seven classmates) * Craig Erickson * Teresa (Crane) Hermes * Traci (Saba) Kubisiak * Jim Saltness The Swarm have eight home games per season, so the FHS Class of '89 will account for (at least!) three-fourths of my "guest list" for 2010! I have four tickets for each home game. One is obviously for my seat, so that leaves a total of three for each of you. The NLL schedule for the upcoming season is typically announced sometime in September. When it is, I will PM each of you either on Facebook (for those of you on Facebook) or fridley1989.com (for everyone else) with the eight Swarm home dates and more detailed information on how we'll sort out who's going to which game, where we'll meet, etc. I originally wanted to post all that stuff here, but this post is getting pretty long as it is. :) (Cross-posted on my Facebook wall)

I was talking to Jason McCarty ('87) today and we would like to have anyone that ever played hockey at Fridley High to put on the skates one more time for a little Hockey Reunion. If you have any interest or have a sibling that used to play, doesn't matter what year, or would like to come out and watch please let me know. We are shooting for sometime in March when the season winds down and we can get some ice time cheap. Probably at the Super Rink in Blaine.
