20-Year Reunion

DETAILS

Hi, Huskies!

Our 20 Year Reunion is planned for the weekend of October 17th - 18th.

Saturday, October 17th

is the MAIN EVENT - the 20 Year Reunion for the Class of '89.

It will be held in Downtown Gastonia at The Wooden Nickel (formerly Charlie's/Dino's) beginning at 8:00pm.  The address is 124 S South St, Gastonia, 28052 - see map below.  The Wooden Nickel will be rented only for our private party that night - no general public allowed.  There will be a designated smoking area and security available inside and outside the facility.

There will be plenty of space for parking.  There is an empty parking lot between The Wooden Nickel & Wachovia and more parking across from The Wooden Nickel.  Please use the entrance on South Street, not the Main Street entrance.

Don't forget your ID!  And feel free to bring your yearbooks and any photographs from the good ol' Hunter Huss days to share with everyone.

Top Ten Reasons Not to Miss the 20 Year Reunion

10.     You will laugh, cry, and reminisce with your oldest friends.

9.     You do not have to lie about your age.

8.     You will feel better and realize that you are not the only one who has been married, divorced, married, divorced and is still looking.

7.     Hors d’oeuvres, DJ, 2 cash bars with a special "Huskie" drink, door prizes.

6.     You can rekindle or begin new relationships.

5.     You can laugh about your high school experiences that were not so funny at the time.

4.     You will enjoy an evening out without the kids, or grandkids, as the case may be.

3.     Use the reunion as an opportunity to diet and shape up.

2.     Humor the committee. They are a bunch of deluded diehards who think everyone should show up to appreciate their efforts.

1.     And, finally, studies have shown that those who were initially hesitant about attending their reunions discover it
was an event that they would not have missed!

Several people have asked about dress code....it's a party, y'all!  Wear whatever you would wear to a party.  It's not formal, so no tuxedos required.  If you realllllly want to dress fancy, go ahead.  If you want to wear jeans, that's fine, too.  The location is a nightclub type setting, so come ready to party!

The photographer will be set up when you arrive.  He will be taking formal photographs as you arrive, and requests that EVERYONE have their picture taken after checking in.  He will stay during the night and take candid shots.  He will be taking orders for CDs of EVERY picture that he takes.  The CDs will cost $20 (please bring cash if you would like to order one - he is not equipped to take debit/credit cards.  The CD you receive will have EVERY picture that he takes all night long - all of the formal ones from when everyone checks in and all of the candids.  A very cool memory!  Once you have the CD, you can print only the photos you want, or put them on Facebook, your own website, email them to friends, etc.  Even if you do not personally want a copy of the CD for yourself, please have your photo made when you arrive, so that those who buy one will have a photo of everyone who attends the reunion.

There have been many questions about the cost of the reunion.  Please see below for a breakdown of the costs:

The rental of the facility from 8pm to 2am is $1,000.  (A $200 deposit was paid out of our pockets to reserve it, so that will need to be paid back.)
Food is $15/person - we have planned on 85+ people.  We know that we will have people show up at the door, and we have asked them to prepare plenty of food, but we did not want to have to incur more expense than necessary since we have repeatedly asked for a headcount.  (Total for food is $1275)
Security for the facility (inside & outside) is $500 - this is part of our contract with the facility.
Unlimited tea, water, coffee, & soda for the night is $100.
7% sales tax on the food is $89.25.
The facility also charges a $100 misc fee for anything we may need that night.
Therefore, the charges just for the place & the food are as follows:
$1,000
$1,275
$   500
$   100
$    89.25
Total  $2,964.25
Paid out so far is the $200 deposit, plus a portion of the balance that was due & paid this previous Friday of $1400.
The DJ is $500.  A $100 deposit was paid out of our pockets and will need to be re-paid.
A party favor for 100 people was ordered and the total cost of those is $115.  A slide show presentation was purchased to show that night for $25.  Both of these costs were paid out of our pockets.
So, the total expense incurred so far is $3,604.25.

As of 10/15/09, we have had 66 people pay for a total income of $3300.

We will repay ourselves the $300 in deposits and the $140 in favors/slide show presentation that we have paid out, and we need to consider the costs for simple decorations, door prizes, nametags, tips for the DJ, photographer, and employees working at the facility and maybe paper products (blue table clothes & napkins).

If we do come up short of the total cost, we will be glad to take donations at the reunion.

Sunday, October 18th
Family picnic at Lineberger Park on Garrison Blvd.
Bring your family & your own picnic and meet at the park for more visiting!
Nothing formal planned.  Those who want to can gather and show off their
family, eat lunch, and talk as long as you like while the kids play!
