GASTONIA — Timothy Elbert McClure, age 69, of Cornelia, Georgia, and formerly of Gastonia, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 27, 2017.

He was born in Gaston County to the late William Harley and Edith Miller McClure. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 and a half years, Wanda McMahan McClure; and infant son, Jeffery Scott McClure. Tim was a member of the Baldwin Baptist Church in Baldwin, Georgia. He was the former pastor of Southside Baptist Church of Gastonia and Temple Baptist Church, also of Gastonia. He worked for the Georgia Baptist Mission Board.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in law, Tammie and Stephen Tanner of Gastonia; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. David & Jill McClure of Mount Holly; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Evelyn McClure of Bessemer City; grandchildren, Kaylee and fiancé, John Stroup, and Kelsey Tanner of Gastonia; Caleb Lynch and fiancé, Morgan Fuller, and Destiny McClure of Mount Holly; nieces and spouses, Amy and Tom Summit of York, SC and, Jennifer & Kevin Yount, of Dallas; great-nephew, Ethan; great-niece, Elana; other extended relatives and a great host of friends.

A celebration of the life of Tim will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 3100 Bethlehem Church Street, Gastonia, NC, with his son, Rev. David McClure, and Rev. Dickie Spargo officiating.

Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia.

The family will receive friends at the church from noon until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Life Baptist Church, 527 N. Buckoak Street, Stanley, NC 28164.
