First Lady Shirlena Barnes
October 24, 1966 to December 10, 2007

First Lady Shirlena Barnes passed away peacefully at Depaul Medical Center on Monday, December 10, 2007. She was born the youngest out of eight children to the late Needham Wiley, Sr. and Annie Mae Wiley. She is preceeded in death by her father. First Lady Barnes graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1985 and furthered her education at the University of North Carolina Charlotte and Wayne Community College where she graduated with a degree in Sociology. Shirlena was a person who always enjoyed life and have touched many hearts along the way. In 1987 she united her soulmate Elder Percy L. Barnes, Jr and to this union God blessed them with a beautiful young lady, Sherelle Barnes. In 1997, she joined St. Luke Church of Christ Disciples of Christ under the pastorship of the Elder Emory Peterson where she worked as a diligent worker with the Senior Usher Board and continued to spread her joy with the youth ministry. In 2004, God called her husband to pastor Zion Light Church of Christ in Norfolk, Virginia where she gladly accepted the call to relocate to Norfolk, Virginia. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Percy L. Barnes, Jr., daughter, Sherelle Renee Barnes, mother, Annie Mae Wiley, three brothers, Reginald Randolph (Angie), Needham Wiley, Jr., Sheldon Wiley (All of Goldsboro, NC), Darryl Wiley (Conchita), Apex, NC, Three Sisters, Katie Hardy, Goldsboro, NC, Antonia Robinson, Tampa, FL, Beatrice Carlisle, Nashville, TN, a host of nieces and nephews.
