Tom Newman

Following graduation I attended Elon College where I graduated with honors in 1992. The fall of 1992 I entered divinity school at Duke University where I earned a Masters (M-Div) in 1995. I was appointed to serve La Grange United Methodist Church in the spring of 1995. I got married in May (23) of 1999 and then was appointed to serve Angier United Methodist Church (June 1999). We have 2 children (both born in Angier) and we are both successful in our careers (Marcie is a Medical Technologist, born in upstate NY where her father owns an apple farm, she moved south to get to a warmer climate). June of 2006 I was appointed to Salem UMC in Greenville, NC (for information on the church see www.salemmethodist.org). We both ride motorcycles (I went to Daytona this spring solo, about 2,000 miles in 6 days, great trip). We have ridden as far north as Lake Placid, NY and as far south as Key West, FL (not trailered but rode). I am not the same skinny kid that graduated from Southern in 1988. I love to travel and have been all over the US and some outside the US (Virgin Islands, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Canada and soon France). I have been blessed more than I have any right to be and I am drinking from my saucer because my cup has overflowed!

I was a real nerd in school. I enjoyed playing soccer with a bottle cap in the hallways near the band room. I really enjoyed band but I have to admit I wasn't that good of a musician. It has been years since I picked up a saxaphone (still have 2).
