The weekend will be what ever you want it to be. For those naysayers I think when the 30th reunion comes up then you should be the first one to sign up to plan it.

Thanks for all the support for us trying to plan this event. We have worked hard and have asked others for there input. This is the response we have received so we decided to go with what most people want. Friday night at Whiteys is what the 1988 class did last year and it was a blast! If William has a problem with the events then maybe he should plan it.

Hello All,

I am excited about the upcoming weekend, I would tend to agree that maybe Applebees isn't know for their fine dining (I haven't been there in about ten years so they may actually have some good food now, I guess this will be my 10 yr reunion with Applebees)or the place that would be ideal but when asked if everyone wanted to spend $50 or so for a night out obviously some weren't on board. Its hard to blame that on the people trying to organize this.

I really don't think the reunion is about where we eat but more about catching up.

William did bring up a great question about dress code. If we are going with the "barefoot, coveralls and a tube tops". William, could I wear your coveralls and tube top since you wont be attending? I seem to have misplaced mine. :-)

As for the "rival" thing. What are we 16 again? I'm pretty sure we were all asked if we wanted to do it the same weekend as RR, why wouldn't we? Friends are friends, 20 yrs later I doubt there will be anyone signing the "raindrop/drip" song and if anyone does break out that song I'm quite sure that both RR and GFC alum would be laughing just the same.

I hope you all are doing well and I look forward to seeing you in a few weeks!

At my wife's 20 yr, her class had a mixer at a hotel and moved over to the bar across the street. Why not start at the bar if that's where you're going to end up anyway?

As for the other two events, the University Park picnic worked well for the 10 yr and it looks like our VOLUNTEER committee has added to the experience with the Red Pepper trailer. Whether or not I think Applebee's is the best choice for Saturday evening is not going to prevent me from being with friends that I have not seen for 10 or even 20 years. Quite frankly, I haven't been to GF for a while and don't really know what any better possibilities might be.

Bill, your comments were tactless. If you had wanted something a little more black-tie, you should have stepped up with the fundraising, but I guarantee that you'd still be taking your picture next to me in my cargo shorts and tennis shoes.

As everyone before me has stated, a reunion is about getting back in touch with people you once knew very well and getting to know the others better than you did then. The three events are designed to give everyone the opportunity to participate when they can in different environments that they can be comfortable in. The venues at the end of the day should fade into the background because the fun is never where you are, but who you are with.

Thank you to Brenda, Becky, Jennifer, Lainie, and whomever else has assisted for your time, effort, and expenditures. Many thanks to you, we have a 20 yr reunion. Thanks to Rick, too, for starting the Grand Forks Central Class of '89 group on Facebook as that seems to have seeded the thoughts of a reunion.

See everyone in a couple of weeks!

Wow I leave town for the weekend and all hell breaks loose on the web site. Becky, Jen, Lainie and I have all put aside time for the planning of this reunion. We sent out questionairs, asked for comments and asked for help from anyone who was willing. We planned things depending on what people answered to in the questionairs going with what the majority of the people wanted. I know that there are many people who are disapointed in the fact that we will not be having a formal dinner for Saturday evening however I did post the reasons for that when we changed the plans. We planned the social time at Applebee's for 8:00 pm so you could do a nice dinner before we met at Applebee's. We have had a few people email us personally and ask why but they we satisfied with the fact that we went with what the majority of the people wanted. We will never please everyone!! But I know that we planned this reunion with one goal in mind. Making it fun and affordable for everyone who would like to attend. Thank you to everyone who supported our judgement and stood behind us. I am looking forward to seeing everyone in a few weeks and having a great time.

Bill if you don't think that the reunion is something you would enjoy taking part in, maybe you just shouldn't attend. We really would have appreciated your comments in the beginning of the planning process, not after everything was planned.

See Everyone At Whitey's Back Bar Friday July 17. Overalls and tube tops are optional.

Quick question - does anyone know who is planning on coming back for the reunion? I see only 26 people have responded to the "I will be there" link and I'm just curious. Is there a place on here that shows people coming? I'm sure there aren't just 26, right?

See you in 17 days!

At the last count we had 48 classmates coming and about 5 ?'s some with a spouse or friend some with out. That was in the first questionair that I some how managed to erase, which is why I put up the new one and asked people to reply. Obviously not everyone has done that. Any way we are counting on 100 with spouses or a friend which is right around what we had at the 10 year. Can't wait to see everyone.

For the people that do not know, Applebee's and Whitey's have areas outside that would easily accommodate us those nights. I feel both of these place work out well. I can not wait.

I was thinking of writing about the economy, supporting the decision about Sanders, etc. etc. Then I realized it would be preaching to the choir for most here.

Committee members, please accept my thanks for setting this up! I'm traveling a couple thousand miles to be there and I look forward to it.

Bill's post did help me realize something, though. There has been a disturbing lack of tube-tops in my life!

Heavy sigh.

So, in a blatent attempt at humor and to rectify this missing piece of my life, I will buy drinks for anyone in overalls and a tube top at Whitey's. :-)

Planning an event for 20 people or 200 people is never easy. Those that are paid to plan events, and those that volunteer their time and energy, are in a thankless position and an easy target for what ONE or TWO people may not like.

My sincere THANK YOU goes out to those that got the ball rolling for our 20th Reunion. Keep up the good work!

I have to say the reunion has become so much more interesting since Bill made his post. The chatter on Facebook and this site has ignited a passion for making the best of the weekend. So thanks Bill for inspiring those that will be attending the reunion to spend half as much money and probably have twice as much fun. Long live the TUBE-TOP!!

Thanks Bill. Because of you, I'm wearing my tube top and overalls and getting free drinks from Mike.

And Mike, you might want to bring some extra cash. I might not be the only smart one dressing up "Bill" style.

Well it is good to see some discussion about the events. It’s more than I have heard or seen on this topic in the past year.

I never recalled receiving a questioner on the topic of reunion events, let alone a chance to participate on the committee to plan for it.

To those of you that have sent me private e-mails and messages in support of thoughts and feelings I thank you. I think we all should feel free to voice our thoughts and be able to post comments without fear of backlash.

For those of you that are a little more sensitive and took my comments as a personal attack, relax. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff. If that is the events then so be it ‘m sure we will have a great time. Meet you at the Red Pepper roach coach or at the port-a-potty.

May be we can squeeze in a bon-fire-kegger out at some ones farm yard just like the old days and really cut down on the costs of this event. (LOL….That is supposed to be funny for those in the crowd who are not paying attention.) Or better yet we can sell class of 1989 tube tops this year to raise proceeds for the 30th reunion with the motto of barefoot in the park ’89 “The Grinder Fest”.

In short, sometimes people shouldn’t ask questions if they are not ready handle a response that is one’s own opinion. It’s nothing personal, it was just an opinion.

I got my tube top...are ya sceered? Do you really think I would pass up free drinks? C'mon! I just wanted to say that I like the Bella Vino idea. Its nice that we support a local business that happens to be owned by a classmate and friend. If I am going to DRIVE 2000 miles with three kids in a minivan...I better get some drinks out of this deal. ;)

Now this is the group I remember and am thrilled to see again! Love the bon-fire idea Bill but it'd be a heck of a caravan here to Fargo to use our place!

Hi Everyone!
Brenda, Lainie, Jen, and Becky. THANK YOU! There has been enough said so I won't go on, but I am glad you guys took the initiative to get things going. I am wondering if there is something else I need to fill out. I haven't checked the site for months so I didn't see a questionnaire. Do I need to fill out any info.? Lainie I see I need to send you money...the check is in the mail...(Haven't used that line since college!)

I am still need help in picking out a tube top. I have my short overalls picked out. Mike what color do you like

I'm kinda bummed about not going to Sanders because I know Joe Hanson (class of 90) was excited to cook some great food for all of us. I do understand the cost thing though. It isn't about the place you are at it is about the people you are with.
I do particularly like the idea of a bon fire and a keg or 3 or 10... then it will really be like the class of 89. Maybe go see if we can still get down to "Mills Hills" down by the river?
Anyway I look forward to all the people wearing tube tops, if you really do wear them I will also buy drinks too! How could you go wrong with tube tops and drinks?

ps Just an FYI
If you have to get a hotel yet, go on priceline.com, I was able to get a room for 40 bucks a night at the old Town House 2 blocks from Central. Better hurry though...

Jeremy, that's an awesome video, thank you!! Thanks for supporting TTN. (That's Tube Top Nation for the uninitiated).

Mike, I'm thinking we want to stick with school colors if at all possible. You're a bit of an 'autumn' also. Just consider it.

Stephanie, I got you 'covered'. I thought about driving my 2000 miles, but chose to fly instead. You deserve the tube-top queen treatment for that.

What a riot.

Mike

p.s. I swear I saw two tube tops when out grocery shopping for the 4th today. I about lost control.

p.p.s. for facebook users... yes there is a Tube Top Fan club. Please consider joining in support of our efforts.

p.p.p.s. I'm happy to support the wine bar as well, it's a nice addition to the weekend, thank you.

Mike P, are you wearing your tube sox with those short coveralls? How about those penny loafers. Your gonna be stylish!!

Did someone say BONFIRE, KEGGER??? For those of you who don't know, I live right at the shore (ok - 1/2 mile away) from Matajcek Dam. Anyone remember that party spot? (Oh wait - that would have been the RED RIVER People - ewww. I am Kidding - turns out some of those RR girls ended up being some of my best friends. Funny how that works when you grow up.) I would be more than happy to host a party at my house - lots of room in the yard to spread out. We still have time to plan. . . .

p.s. this would have to be another night - other than Friday or Saturday. Wicked Wednesday or Thirsty Thursday anyone??? I know there are a few out-of-towners coming in earlier in the week.
