Dear brother John passed on 12-9-99 due to cancer of the lung, then liver, then everywhere.Very sad... John was living with his wife Rebeca and dog Barney in the Atlanta area. He followed his talent in music and was a piano tuner, re-builder, a master of the art. Hard to believe it has been almost ten years. John was a one of a kind talented man. John Blick was my friend. He always made me laugh, and knew how to "get to me." In high school, his antics kept me in stitches, especially in 1st Period Phys Ed.
He started calling me "Lieutenant Les" when we took Marine ROTC our senior year, and continued to greet me that way for the rest of his life. We were fraternity brothers at ECU, and I will always remember going through Hell Week with "Huey." I was miserable, but Blick seemed to enjoy all the insanity we were subjected to, telling me "We can take whatever they dish out, Lt. Les."
I saw Huey at our 20th Reunion. We told stories, and laughed all night. It was the last time I ever saw him, but I will never forget him. Rest in Peace, Baby Huey.
It hurts to find out about John's illness and passing, even though I had not seen him since '71. Thanks to Sam and Les for sharing and informing. What an amazing personality, generous, kind and a true friend. Post high school, and at his insistence, we made a trade: My old drum set (does anyone but me and the other immediate victims remember "The Exiles!") for his old Dodge with push-button transmission, which if I remember correctly, wasn't actually running at the time. His conditon was that I revive my interest in playing and join him to make a rock band, me playing the drums that now belonged to him. We did for a short time, music-making can be so bonding, but my interests lay elsewhere, and contact was lost. Even in the midst of the chaos of that period, I think John had integrity in the greater sense of the word; he was a united soul, genuine, so very unique and special. I feel somewhat impoverished to know of his passing so long ago. John Blick, a true mate, RIP.
