Claybon Harris was one heck of a basketball player. He should have played varsity at GHS, but for various reasons, that never happened. I played against him in many pick-up games, and he could definitely "take it to the hole." Anyway, I lost track of Claybon after high school. I remember someone told me he was a CPA, living and working in Greensboro. Did anyone see an obituary? (If so, please post here.)

The obituary below for Clay Harris can be found at this web site, which also includes a recent image. He really had not changed. I'm sorry I did not know him, but wanted to pass this information along since finding out about local Greensboro history is something I do daily.

Claybon is one of the people that have popped up from the mysteries of memory in recent years.  I was only superficially aware of the challenges he faced at Grimsley, time and distance providing more perspective.  I recall one day his being bullied by one of the brighter lights in the next class up, and the shame and anger I felt, and could only imagine his.  Some of us (David Gay, among others) attempted to gain his trust, and hope he knew many of us were blessed with his presence, and were admiring of his hard work and bravery.  From the obit, it would seem he lived a good life, although far too short.
