peacefully on December 12, 2022 at Beacon Place.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 3:00 pm at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends and loved ones prior to the graveside service from 1:00 until 2:30 pm at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., in Greensboro. 

Jim was a 1967 graduate of Ben L. Smith High School in Greensboro and was proud of his time as a United States Marine. He made his career in the Auto Industry. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, James “Bill” and Nancy Harper of Greensboro; a sister, Margaret Ann “Peggy” Harper; his wife of 37 years, Shelby Jean Humble Harper; his second wife of 11 years, Linda Harper; and a son, James “Jimmy” Harper. III.

He is survived by his son, John Harper (Karen) of Stokesdale; sister, Donna Westmoreland of Arden; four grandchildren; niece and nephews; and several cousins and other extended family.

The family would like to give a special thank you for all the staff at Beacon Place of Greensboro for taking such great care of Dad.

Pamela Smith (Smith)

I've known Jimmy since before we started school.  His dad and mine worked together.  We lived on the same street just one block apart.  We would stand on the corners and throw acorns at each other.  Every time I saw Jimmy since graduation, he would always bring me a handfull of acorns.  He was a good friend.
