After graduation, my Mother sent me to Stevens College for Women in Columbia, MO for 2 years. (I must have been driving her crazy!) Because of the great education I received at GHS, I received advance placement in both English and Art. Thank you, Nell Thomas and Maxine Holcombe!
I was at Ole Miss during the James Merideth riots and in that well televised summer graduation class with him. The life I have lived has been full of moments that took my breath away.
My first teaching position was in Freeport in the same Jr. Hi my future husband, attended. Meeting Paul was the absolute best day of my life. After we married were on 6-5-65 at Trinity Methodist Church in Greenville, we lived in Austin while Paul finished Law School. Lake Jackson TX while Paul did his early lawyer DA work, then 20 years in Rosenberg, TX. We've been in Richardson 18 great years. Our children are all native born Texans like their Dad, and the Cory triplets were born in Dallas.
Retirement has proven to be a very freeing experience. I'm doing as much or more than when I worked. Paul is still lawyering, I have been painting watercolors off and on for years. Now I've taken it up almost full time! Winning awards becomes quite a source of encouragement. And I have sold some. too. I baby sit the "trips", Paul & I frequent Colorado and NYC to see the grandkids and incidentally our sons & their wives. We have great friends here, an inspiring Church Paul loves to go on work camps with the church builder bunch and I, for the second year, am President of Richardson Civic Art Society.
Teaching Art, painting and having a wonderful husband for 44 years with a big loving family has been living a dream. Who knew that skinny girl with braces, freckles and frizzy hair could be so lucky?
