Sam (Sambo) Fleming
To Everyone Who Was At Eli's Friday night,
I had a wonderful time Friday night. As you said Susan, great friends and great food. Ely's is awesome for those of you from Greenville who haven't eaten there. Plus you won't find better people than the Shapley's. It was great seeing Richard and Chris, Chris's wife, and Richard's son. I have great memories of growing up in Greenville and playing baseball with both Chris and Richard. To Jim, we weren't terribly close in High School, but I always respected you and looked up to you as an inspiration and leader. You emulate the expression "Speak softly and carry a big stick". I have really enjoyed the time we have spent at the reunion and now in Ridgeland. Susan, you know I'm crazy about you. I love your spunk, sense of humor, and just general personality. I know you'll think I'm bullshitting but you're still as pretty as you were in high school. I envy you and Jim that you have survived the years together and having been married .....a few......times,lol, I wish I had found the same. You know, life deals similar hands to all of us during life. It's not the events, it's how you handle them and decisions you make. I'm still learning. Marilyn, I always admired you from afar like most of the other girls, who I didn't think would be very interested in me. You are still the same person I remember in High School. Very popular but not one to seek a lot of attention. You just handled it well. I've enjoyed being around Randy. He is a lot of fun, and fits right in. At least I think so. He may have gotten home and said "that is a crazy bunch of folks, especially Sambo", but at the very least he is a very tolerant person. I enjoyed seeing Amy and Keith. Amy was just a young girl when I was running with Pat in Greenville. She has grown up and is not the young girl I remember, kind of in the background and never drawing any attention to herself. Like her brother, she is full of life and it was energizing to be in her presence. Her husband Keith is a cool guy. Very laid back but I suspect intense at times. He and I share at least one guilty pleasure. And Pat, what can I say. Pat is Pat. He and I literally grew up together. Both went to the same church, same schools, and were inseparable. Pat is everything I would like to be. Himself. Everybody knows that Pat is a person who speaks his mind and can be a bit intimidating. I know him differently as a person who has always been there for me even when I didn't always make myself available like I should. Thank God Pat is Pat. In a culture where it is difficult to find people you can trust and who are also fun to be around, I have truly been blessed. I miss you guys and many others who weren't there either for the reunion or Friday night. I sincerely hope that we don't let time get away from us again. Maybe we should set at least a quarterly time when we all meet somewhere, have dinner, hang out, or whatever.
