Debbie A.
I do remember you taking dancing with us. Can't beleive your mom had a program. Pretty neat.
I have been keeping up with Peggy on the Caringbridge website. I know they are all going through a rough time right now and I will keep them in my prayers.

Congratulations to Joe, Al and Chris...Y'all were the "Star" athelets at St Joe.
We all sure do miss Al...What a great guy!

Joe - I know you have forgotten this, but one day you and I had had a few too many beers, and went to the GHS track to end a LONG arguement we had about who was faster!!!...We FINALLY decided to run the 100 yard dash once and for all. We took off in a fierce head of steam, and.........I beat you by a yard! I fell down laughing. You were SO mad you wanted to run it again, and you blamed it on the cigarettes and beer, but I was smoking and drinking too. Damn! we had lots of fun back then Joe Joe! We miss you around here.

Debbie - Thinking about you "all". In our prayers always.
Kenny - Good luck with the "Nursing Home Boogie" as I called it when my dad landed there. Extremely high level of stress, and wondering whether you are being a "good parent" in reverse?...and y'all are.

Love and Peace to you all. Clainy

CLAINY,

I VAGUELY REMEMBER SOMETHING LIKE THAT. IF YOU BEAT ME, IT HAD TO BE A COUPLE YRS AFTER HIGH SCHOOL AND I DEFINITLY HAD TO BE 2 SHADES IN THE WIND. SERIOUSLY SPEAKING TO ALL OUT THERE. I USE TO ASK CLAINY, WHY IN THE HELL HE WOULDNT GO OUT FOR SPORTS. CLAINY & I WERE VERY COMPETITIVE WITH EACH OTHER. FOOTBALL AND BASEBALL WAS A DRAW. HE BEAT ME IN BASKETBALL AND GOLF. HE EMBARRASED ME IN TENNIS. WE USE TO WRESTLE AND HE WAS VERY STRONG. CLAINY BOWMAN WAS JUST A GOOD OF ATHELETE AS ANY OF US IN THE BEST CLASS OF ALL OF 1969. CRIS SHAPLEY IS PROBABLY SAYING RIGHT NOW.......BULL.......
CLAINY, YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU AS A BROTHER. IF EVERYONE KNEW SOME OF THE RIDICULOUS THINGS WE DID IN TODAYS TIMES, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED A LITTLE FUNNY. I DONT REGRET ANY OF THESE THINGS. WHILE EVERYONE ELSE WAS DATING. ME AND YOU WOULD LINE UP BEER CANS ACROSS BAYOU ROAD ENTRANCE, JUST TO SEE IF ANYONE WOULD DRIVE AROUND THEM.

Clainy Robertshaw Bowman

I DO remember lining up the beer cans!...WOW!
Your "real" true friends, from days gone by, remind you of how fruity you could be back in the 60's & 70's. What fun it was.

Joe, You were a VERY good golfer. I just had a little bit more game. The GGCC course taught me "shot making".

Clainy - really makes me sad about the bad things happening at GHS. Seems like a lot of the young people don't know the meaning of respect. Keep us "out of towners" posted.

How 'bout this weather? Isn't it beautiful. This is FOOTBALL WEATHER! Days like this always bring back my memories of Fridays at GHS. The excitement of a good football game, and the anticipation of a Great Pep Rally, and yelling What's the Good Word from one end of the school to the other end! I feel really sorry for those attending GHS now that won't have this great memory in later life!

Jobanna - Did your guys get in the field yet?

09/30/09 02:22 PM #2280

Jobana Gaye Larson (Frey)

Yes, Susan my guys are back in the field. Praise the Lord!!The weather is so beautiful here. I may have to play hooky from work like I used to do in high school. Now I know my mother knew what I was up to when I had fever on Friday but she never said a word:)

Clainy, I had already heard of some problems at GHS. I heard there was some shooting going on. Makes me mad and sad! We were scared of getting caught chewing gum and look what goes on now. I wish I knew the answer but I don't. I know what my parents would have done to me had
I gotten into trouble at school and that's what kept me out of trouble.

Susan, you are right. We do have the best memories of a wonderful time and no one can take that away from us. Great school with good, well mannered kids in 1969!!

Jobanna, glad the sun is out so your boys can get to
work. Take a day off...I am giving you my permission.LOL

Lynn G - looking forward to MSU and Florida game. Got to get your quarterback well.

Debbie - sounds like you have been loaded down. I think about you and your family alot. I came to Indianola and ate at the "Lost Dog" (think that's the name)with some friends. That was the best pizza I have ever had. When I come back maybe we can meet for dinner.

Everyone keep Linda B. and her husband in your prayers.
He has his surgery next week.

Chad - what about our fishing trip???

Love U All...mkc

Marilyn,
Can't wait till the game...
I think Tebow will be ready to play. UF does not have a game this weekend and he will probably be ready for the LSU game the following weekend. Pretty scarry though. Did not like seeing him(or any other player) barely moving after a hit. Always reminds me of the player that was killed during a Greenville High game when we were in 9th grade. Pretty sure he was the kicker. I will never forget it.

Hoping to see you and lots of others that weekend. Will be in touch...

I can tell you some stories of things that happen at school over the years. Teaching really used to be fun, now it is honestly a job. Used to be play in a way, cause kids wanted to learn. Today that is not the case. We have metal detector searches at least once a month, at random, and we've only found something a few times.

Take care,
Mike

Sam (Sambo) Fleming

Hi to everyone. I have not heard anything about Frank England in the last couple of weeks. If anyone has any news I'd appreciate hearing about how he is doing. By the way Lynn, the player you were talking about was Jimmy Etheridge and he handled kickoffs.

I did get an email from Rayner a few weeks ago and learned that Hospice is there now but no further news since. Our prayers need to remain with them.

Sam,
I thought I remembered his last name was Etheridge but could not remember his first name. It is a night I will never forget...Very sad.

I remember that night too. It was like it didn't really happen, and everything would be ok in just a little while...One of those surreal moments in life.
It was very sad ...& still is.

Sam was right, it was Jimmy Etheridge. I think a lot of us remember that night. He collided head on with another player.

Rayner and Frank - The Lord is right there at your side, now, more than ever.... Love y'all!

10/05/09 09:15 AM #2290

Susan Hughes (McCarty)

The night Jimmy died was horrible. I remember when the announcer asked for our attention. I think we all knew what he was going to say because the entire stadium got so quiet, you could hear a pin drop.

Rayner and Frank - we love ya'll.

MPS - WHERE ARE YOU?

10/05/09 02:12 PM #2291

Marilyn Kelly (Palmer)

I also remember the night when Jimmy Etheridge got killed. GHS was playing Clarksdale. My two older sisters
were cheerleaders at the time. Jimmy was a good football play and even better baseball player. He had been approached by the pros in baseball and was only in high school. You probably all remember his brothers, Bobby & Dickie and his sister, Linda. I still have the note Rev. Claxton wrote which was published in the paper about that night. Very touching!

Frank and Rayner, you are both on our prayer list at my church. We love you both.

I talked to Peggy Hardin Tabb Saturday and she is doing so much better. Home and learning how to walk again.

Please remember Linda B. and her husband. He goes in for his surgery tomorrow.

Susan, got to get together soon and catch up. When your grandson gets here, I won't see you for a long time. LOL

Jimmy Etheridge was a great person and he was on of the best ball players to come out of Greenville High Jimmy's brother Bobby played for the SF Gaints for a couple years. My father coach Bobby in little league and my brother played baseball with Bobby all the thru high school.

I received this note from Rayner today.

"The two of us so appreciate your kind thoughts and prayers-------and yes, we definitely need them, not only for us, but for our three children, too. This is a difficult journey that we are taking."

Continue to keep them in your prayers. Love to you all and have a great weekend.

I received an email from Rayner this morning in response to one I sent her. Apparently Frank is in terrible pain still, and Hospice just started a new drug regime. Rayner is at his side all the time as he is bed-ridden except to go the to bathroom and that alone completely exhausts him. He eats very little. We need to pray for the entire family and for Frank to pass on peacefully to the Lord. There is freedom from pain waiting for him there, and he is ready to go. Please keep him and his family in your prayers daily.

Meriwether,
Thanks for the update on Frank...I will email or try to call Rayner.

Merriweather - Thanks so much for letting us know about Frank. I know, without a doubt, that the Class of 69 is praying for Frank, Rayner and the children.

Linda Dianne Burnett (Kistner)

Ok - first thank you all for the birthday wishes - 58 - sorry mentally I don't feel 58 (as you notice I said mentally).

We were back in Birmingham today for surgery follow-up and path reports. Ken's cancer has not spread to the lymph nodes but there is a "very, very small marginal area" that they would like to treat with radiation. We will go back in January (everything has to heal first) and will set up the schedule to have that done. We are very pleased with the doctors at the Urology Clinics of Alabama and St. Vincent's Hospital. Thanks again for the prayers -

Linda
