STUART LEWIN – some highlights

Undergraduate degree in comparative literature from IU. I played in the Marching hundred Band. On one trip to Miami we played “Moon over Miami at a half time performance, just as a full moon rose.” Incredible!
Gail Schlesinger, my high school sweetheart, and I married at IU and we went to the Peace Corps in Nigeria (1966-68) She taught biology and I taught English as a second language. I coached our school’s basketball team called the Abuja Potters. They won the Northern Nigeria Regionals, and I learned humility. We taught in the Morning; rested in the afternoon, and I had great fun playing basketball each afternoon after the heat of the day.
Graduated Law School in Washington DC with honors while Gail worked to support us.
We moved to Chicago where I practiced law for a tax firm for 2 years. Gail and I divorced. She remained in Illinois. I moved west to Montana where the skys are truly big (see pic), the waters clean and clear (for the most part) (see another pic) and the wilderness still abides (another pic - a group of us attempting to climb Mount Wright on the Rocky Mountain front wilderness). I thought I was just passing through but have stayed on for forty years.
In Montana I married my second wife Sarah. We had a daughter Rachel : the love of my life. Sarah and Rachel moved to New York City so for a number of years I practiced law in NY and Montana. Also during this time I owned a hot springs resort in Boulder, MT (see pic attached) which I gave up after 10 years - completely exhausted and broke, but with a lifetime of memories and stories.
While in New York Sarah introduced me to a holy man from India (Baba Agwarsha) who asked me to be his lawyer. I learned much from him and for the first time became confident in myself.
After Rachel graduated high school, Sarah and I divorced and I returned to practice law in Montana full time doing estate and business planning for farm clients.
Currently I am happily married to my third wife Hilary who sings in the Great Falls symphonic choir, loves gardening and her daughter Sara and grandson Damond(2 yrs)

I think Barbara Stivers comments need to be revised to make it clear that it did not come from Paul because Paul has passed away, and it is confusing as it was sent to us in the e-mail.

Ah ha! I may have just found it! Go to the In Memory Page and click on Paul's name. Go down to the bottom of the page, and click on the line that refers to Paul's "last post" and it should take you to his profile page with the photo. If that doesn't work, please let me know.

My condolences to Paul's family and loved ones.

Paul and I were on the debate team together. We were also in the band together.  Paul played first chair flute, and I played in the cornet section.  One year the state band competition and one of the two state debate tournaments were on the same weekend.  Paul and I decided we were more indespensile for the debate tournment than for the band competion.  So we went there and won.  Mr. Melton, Morton's band director, did not see it that way, however, and gave us both Fs  for the semester (or maybe it was Ds I can't remember which).

Paul and I spent alot of time together in high school, and I am much better for having known him in my life.

When I called him to encourage him to come to the fiftieth reunion - being he was class president and all - it was the first time I had spoken with him since high school.  He said he could not come because he had commitments in Arizona.  He invited me to visit him at his home in Carmel, CA.  I never got around to doing that - wish I had.

I loved the picture of Paul and his family.
