Alan Zatterio was my Best Friend. I was six years old when my parents moved to Willard Ave. Alan was the first person who came to our door to introduce himself. Alan had 2 older brothers, but no other boys his age to play with in the neighborhood. We became instant friends. We biked together, camped out in the back yard, climbed trees and yes we even fought a couple times.
After High School, I went on to college. Unfortunately, Alan's parents could not afford to send him to college, so he worked in my grandfather's drug store. Whenever I came home from college, my first stop would be the drug store to see my friend Alan and find out what was happening in his life!
Alan was only 19 when he died of a brain tumor. His father, who owned the barber shop next to my grandfather's drug store never forgave himself for letting them operate on Alan. Mr. Zatterio died exactly one year after Alan. Personally, I feel he died of a broken heart.
I truly miss Alan and will hoist a glass in his honor at the reunion!
