Allan L Humphreys - Class Of 1965

NEWPORT NEWS - Allan L. Humphreys, 67, died peacefully in his sleep, Sunday, September 28, 2014 with his loving wife at his side. He was born March 4, 1947 in Hopewell, VA and was raised in Blacksburg before moving to the Peninsula in 1959. After graduating from Kecoughtan High School, Allan spent time in the Naval Reserves and then with the Newport News Shipyard. In 1985, he met his beloved wife, Dottie, and together they owned and have operated Dottie's Custom Clean & Humphreys Painting for 28 years. Allan was a member of the Peninsula Track Club and his passions included books, music, and the Civil War; however, his true love, second only to his family, was the Virginia Tech Hokies. Allan was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Willis Humphreys and Vivian Anne Cromer; He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Dottie B. Humphreys; brothers, Dennis Wayne Humphreys and William Craig Humphreys, both of Richmond; his wonderful grandsons, Logan Joyner Alligood and Cameron Clay Lowery; a beautiful granddaughter, Anne Morgan Alligood; two wonderful step-sons, Norman Glenn (Kammy) Alligood and Michael Brian Alligood. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home followed by a celebration of Allan's life at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family wishes to extend a "special thank you" to the one special nurse, Paula Ruiz, with the Medi Hospice Group and Allan's friend, John Alligood for all his wonderful prayers and time spent together these past few months. For the love of the "Noland Trail" at the Mariner's Museum, the family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Mariner's Museum Park in Newport News.
