Hello Everybody,
I graduated with a degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology, and remained in this field throughout my entire career. Most of my working life was spent on the elementary school level in the suburbs here on Long Island, NY.
I loved my days at Hampton. I received a solid education in my chosen career, and met true lifelong friends. I wish I had been more outgoing. Looking back, I regret living in the Monastery for a year; then in Winona Hall for two years. I did not become well acquainted with as many of the other 'girls' who lived in Kelsey, and, especially in Virginia-Cleveland. Also, I was very shy in those years, and did not participate in many extracurricular activities.
I've had some personal achievements I'd like to share. I was able to purchase my own home, by myself, in 1983. This has not been easy, but I'm grateful for the experience. By far, though, my biggest joy was becoming a mother. Son, James McLurkin, born in 1972 is living happily with wife, Dara, in Houston. I thank God for them.
I became a Delta in 1978, sponsored by the late Wray (Pash) Peacock, Class of 1966. In addition to Sorority participation, I've been active in many church groups and a long-time choir member. I've become a devoted quilter. Now I need to increase my dedication to this craft. My dream is to create quilts for my family.
I am so upset I cannot attend our reunion. My left knee will be replaced on May 28, and I am absolutely too challenged to make the trip at this time.
Please, please, I beg all of you to keep in touch with me. I pray we will remain in contact through the years.
In fond friendship, Sandra (Sandy) Lawson
