Hi Abigail,

Good hearing from you.  Are you associated with Numismatic Museum in Colorado Springs?  I have been there and not only the museum but the theatre right behind it.  What months are you actually in the Springs?

Barry

Hi Carol,

Yes, I remember you very well.  Where are you now? Are you retired?

Hi Ronda,

I would have liked to have come to the reunion, but didn't know anything about it.  Do you get together every year? I have many fond memories of our childhood together, time sure passes quickly!  How are your siblings? Do you have any idea what happened to Richard Saviet?

Barry

Ronda Sklarow (Dorfman)

Only know Richard Saviet was a lawyer in Washington DC. His brother was a dentist in South Jersey with two small children and died young of a massive heart attack. Nancy died soon after of cancer. Stan might still be alive in a nursing home, but I do not know. Do you have a family? How is your sister Maxine?

Dear Ronda,

So good to hear from you. Was so sorry about Robert and Nancy.  Too many of our classmates died way too young.  How are your siblings?

Yes, I have a family; son is David age 30 and wife is Karen, a retired CCRN.  We live in Lone Tree Colorado, south of Denver.  I am in pretty good health and stay very busy. Karen and I travel as a hobby. My dad died in 1983 in Florida, and my mother died in 2000 here in Colorado, and no communication with Maxine since.

Hi Carol,

Good to hear from you. Living close to family certainly has its advantages, doesn't it?  How many children and grandchildren do you have? You stated you retired in 2004, what kind of work did you do?

Barry

Hi Barry, you probably don't remember me, but I do remember you.   I also live in Colorado (Evergreen), moved here in 1974.  Left Philly area Aug 1964, graduaded form Kansas State University with Civil Engineering degree then worked  in Kansas for 6 years for the Dept of Transporation.  Since then I have worked for a large international engineering firm in Denver for 42 years, but am mostly retired now.  I attended the reunion with my wife Jane, and it was great to reaquaint with so many classmates that I knew 50 years ago.   Jane and I attend Cherry Hills Community Church in Highlands Ranch - so very familiar with the Lonetree area.

Hi Richard!

Evergreen heh?  We are practically neighbors!  Having just moved to Lone Tree from Aurora this past March, I am still learning the area, but it has everything I want and is beautiful! We live less than a mile from Highlands Ranch. We have probably passed in traffic!

You came to Denver from Kansas State?  Never wanted to return to live in Havertown? Life and my work always prevented me from doing so, and since being stationed out here in the Army in 1966 and then going to University of Denver, I have considered Denver my home.  Raised a son here, and in addition, my mother even moved out and resided here until her passing. I used to do alot of skiing and golf, I enjoy the moutain air and everything Colorado has to offer.  Still working full time, and traveling when time allows.

I didn't know this forum existed before; I regret that...Had I known, I would have attempted to make it to the reunion.  Is another in the works?

Lets keep in touch and hopefully we can make a lunch date soon.

Barry

Hi Everyone,

On a different topic...

This a question for those of you who went to Brookline.  I remember going to Washington D.C. for our 6th grade trip but don't remember what we saw while we were there (except for the Washington Monument).  I remember walking down the steps!  Do any of you remember what else we saw?

In response to Linda's question about 6th grade trip to Washington DC, I think I recall the Cherry Blossum trees along the Potomoc and maybe the Lincoln Memorial. I do recall how much fun we had that day. Thanks for bringing this up. John Woodward, Wayne's younger brother, has a photo or 2 of some of us getting on the bus and standing in front of one of the sights. You can reach him on the "Growing Up in Havertown" site. Hope all is well with you.

I went to Chatham Park. The 6th grade Washington DC trip was all of the Havertown elementary schools if I remember correctly. We saw the Washington Monument & ate lunch on the grounds around the monument. We saw the Lincoln Memorial, had a tour of part of the White House (no pics allowed), stood in the Rotundra of the Capitol Building ( where the guide told us about standing in the center floor circle & something about being able to hear a whisper from the outer room area, I believe) I think we also saw the assembly room.  We took a bus ride across the Potomac River & toured George Washinton's home. Yes, the Cherry Blossums were in bloom & georgous.  I loved that trip! -- Just remembered - we also visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetary & saw the changing of the guard. It was also very hot that day!

Diane, you have a wonderful memory.  I went to Lynnewood Elementary and remember going but as far as everything we did well let's just say my memory isn't as good as yours.    I do remember it was a very hot day and a lot of fun. Eileen Strehlau Finnegan

I remember our Washington DC trip mostly because Tommy Kelly came down with the chicken pox and I had to eat dinner with him in the dining car of the train on the way home!

Those of you who have grandchildren between the ages of 5 and 9 or 10 might find of interest an e-book of mine--a fantasy story for kids--that's available at Smashwords (https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/637027) and Amazon (http://tinyurl.com/jl6noy5).

We return you now to your regular programming.

If any of you are readers of science fiction, you might want to consider an e-book of mine that went up at Smashwords and Amazon yesterday. Titled "The Vole Eater," it's a parody/pastiche of The Soul Eater by a sci-fi grand master, Mike Resnick. If you'd care to sample it, Smashwords offers the longer sample. And if any of you purchase a copy, you have my thanks in advance.

Gayl Zappel (Solomon)

Hi everyone,  this is Gayl Zappel now Solomon. I live in Havertown and enjoyed seeing many of you at the reunion. I have 9 grandchildren and they are all between the ages of 5 and 11, what is the name of the children's e-book you mentioned?  Are you an author?  It would be nice for them to read something from someone I graduated with and has roots in Havertown.

Gayl,

Barry is indeed an author.  Here's his post: Those of you who have grandchildren between the ages of 5 and 9 or 10 might find of interest an e-book of mine--a fantasy story for kids--that's available at Smashwords (https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/637027) and Amazon (http://tinyurl.com/jl6noy5).

Thanks, Mike, for passing that information along to Gayl. I'd been trying to for several days with no luck--I kept getting a page that said the Message Forum area was temporarily down for maintenance. After running a program that cleans out old files and such, I'm finally able to access the area--obviously.

Thanks Barry and Mike,  Barry was able to a get thru to me by a back door on this web site.  I've recommended to my Children to check out and download the book "The Boy Who Ate Rainbows" for their children on their Kindles.  I look forward to hearing their reviews, and reading a book or two of Barry's myself.

Thanks, Gayl, for the recommendations to your family about The Boy Who Ate Rainbows. If  your grandchildren read it, I hope they enjoy it. I also hope you enjoy whichever of my other works you decide to read.
