Barry Shellington

Barry passed in late September 2018, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Following graduation from Haverford High, Barry matriculated to Grove City College where he earned an AB degree in Economics. He then went on to become licensed in many aspects of the financial services field as: a Charterd Financial Consultant, a Chartered Life Underwriter, and as a Certifed Estate Advsior. He then opened his own financial consulting business Shellington Associates which he operated for more than 35 years up to the time of his death. In addition to his financial consulting business, Barry was a pioneer in the development of the powered paraglider industry. He was also an accomplished musician and singer, and, over the years he remained very active as a member of a barbershop quartet that competed nationally.

Barry was one of the most talented and charismatic members of our class.  It’s no surprise that he was successful in so many aspects of his life.  Although his passing is sad and untimely, I can’t think of him without smiling.  He brought joy to a great many people.  May he rest In peace.

Barry was a nice kid, always a smile on his face. I will forever have burned in my memory the fun we had in the school talent show rehearsals. Barry loved his music and his talents were many! RIP, buddy. You will be missed. :(

I remember the same rehearsals as Lorraine, as well our years together in the HS choir,.  I can still recall the first show Barry and I were in, in the 7th grade, Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that was the year he played the ukelele and sang a song written by Arthur Godfrey (probably autobiographical) that boasted of the same talent, determination, and high spirits as Barry had.  In 2016, I was not at all surprised to learn that he had pursued a career in which the greatest success goes to people with both real smarts and great people skills.  Though I haven't seen him in 52 years, I still feel the loss.

it was sad when I learned Barry had been killed last fall in a terrible accident. He was, of course, one of my mates, and my lead guitar player, Also many good times  with the madrigals. Decorum would prevent me from telling very many of those stories. His nickname to us was "Burger" after a certain gymn teacher totally mangled his name. But, I will say Barry was one of the most upbeat guys I've ever known even when dealing with more issues than he ever let on. Although he could not make the 50th reunion, it was great to have a mini-stains reunion with The Stains that Friday afternoon. It is a fitting image by which to remember him

I have known Barry since 1952 was lucky enough to have called his parents aunt Irene & uncle Bill always fond memories
