If retired what did you do?
Too cool of a job to retire, but will in a couple of years.
Right out of Helena High, I went to work for the Sate of Montana Dept of Education in the IBM department, the only thing about 15 people did was process payroll for the Montana school system. Talk about ancient equipment. WOW, but then it was state of the art stuff. I think my wrist watch does more today then all that stuff back then.
Left Mt after 2 years moved to Iowa, disk jockeyed for a couple of years then worked for Maytag in the factory.
Came back to Mt worked for my Dad at his Radio Shack Store in Helena for a couple of years. Then Radio Shack offered me the first Company store in Montana in Missoula. Ran that for 3 years, left and went logging with my brother up in the Yack River valley, two years of that, got hurt moved to Portland, Or
Started doing leather work for a living, and loved it. kept it up for 28 years. Traveled the country, had a blast, made money, spent money, made more, spent more, and so it went.
Finally I met the right lady, she settled me down, had to get a REAL job, started driving truck, delivering cars up and down I 5, 3 years of that and the Company asked me to come inside into mid Management. Had a blast, took trucks and equipment all over the country for evaluational before we purchased hundreds of them for the fleet, even did a week in Hollywood making an Audie commercial 3 years ago. Some time around 2004 they through this little Motorola Hand Held Computer at me and said, Here Jim, figure this damn thing out. We want to put them in every truck in the country,(1700). So that's how I got started in the IT department. I still got to go out and evaluate and do the commercial, so how the heck could I retire from such a fun job. Between flying all over the Western US training drivers and so on.
I also own and run an Online Leather Shop. REAL LEATHER on ETSY. So that keeps my creative juices flowing. Google Jim Marshall on ETSY, the first 4 or 5 hits are my shop, click the link and check it out.
My wife and I have a 32 foot sailboat, We mainly sail the Columbia River around Portland, but every 4 years or so we cruise the San Juan Islands of Washington, go a bit up into Canada.
I did have a fight with Lung Cancer stage 3C, what a bitch that was, but I did some unconventional stuff with that and beat it.
