Linda Race Bevan

I went to Miami Dade, which is where I met my husband Ken. I was a freshman and he was a professor (but not my professor.) I transferred to FAU where I received both my BA and MA in economics. Married Ken in 1969, I worked part time until about 1980, when I went full time.

I spent most of my career with the American Automobile Association, simultaneously being an adjunct professor of economics at various colleges. There, I traveled a good bit, and often, Ken could go with me. We have continued the travel adventures into retirement. Our favorite trip was to Cuba in 2014.

Ken is an attorney and a professor emeritus in law. We moved from South Florida to the Orlando area in the early 1980s, then to St. Augustine in 2009. We love St. Augustine! Thank God we both have good health.

OK, I have told almost no one this story:
It involves a really cute boy, a disappointing broken date and an assassination.
In November of 1964, HHS put on the Sadie Hawkins day dance. The notion was that on Sadie Hawkins Day, girls could ask boys on a date. Well, I did not ask anyone but a really cute boy (are you out there Jan Steenblik?) asked me. It would have been my first high school date.

Tragically, the dance was to have happened the day or so after President Kennedy's assassination. Of course, everything was cancelled. "He will ask me out again," I reasoned. He never did. He wound up to be tough competition in spelling bees, we took turns taking the title from one another. What a couple of geeks, maybe a good thing we never went out.
