I am deeply saddened to hear this news. I did not really know Sheri when I was at HPHS, but, in one of those chance encounters, I spoke at length with her at one of the earlier reunions and discoverd a passionate and sensitive person with a kind heart and a graceful way of being. We exchanged a couple of emails over the years and I was always quite surprised at how curious and open-minded Sheri seemed to be about the various causes that have animated my own life. I am deeply saddened to hear this news, and though I am not really a believer, if there is a hereafter, I'm hopeful that Sheri can make the journey.
Fran, Thank you so much for your kind words about that awful tragedy. There are undoubtedly many of us who are fed up and outraged. Sadly, I think this country is on the highway to hell. Indeed, it's embarrassing to be walking around the world these days with the moniker of "American" hanging over us. I wish things were different. Be well and take care.

I did not know Susan Nussbaum -- but after reading the obituary in the Chicago Tribune, I wish I did. She sounds like an extraordinary human being in many different ways, as an activist for diability rights and other just causes, as well as writer, actor and artist. No doubt she was a truly talented person committed to making the world a better, and more enlightened place.

Shirley, I am pondering whether to attend the event in July and was just scrolling through a couple of these profiles. To me 33 years teaching in the public schools is heroic. What also drew me to your profile was the photography program, including the targeted outreach group. Sounds like great work.

Sheri, I don't know if you will get this note, but I remember you so well from, I believe the first or second reunion. You seemed to be such a thoughtful and interesting human being, quite different from the others at the event. I may go the 50th although I'll have to see. If I do and you decide to attend as well, I hope to see you.
