JCMU Story:

On Fridays, Melville-sensei would be extremely nice and give me extra help that morphed into not just extra help but also a chance to share stories about life. She is an incredible teacher and I'm glad I got the chance to have my life affected by her.

How many times have you been back to Japan?

5

Comments:

I graduated from Mizzou in 2008 and have spent the last few years living in Mie prefecture in the tiny little town of Kihoku. Despite my job title as an ALT, I'm in charge of all English education at the elementary level, including making the curriculum and teaching, which I do almost all in Japanese.

JCMU Impact:

JCMU gave me the solid foundation I needed to get better at Japanese and helped my realize my dream of living here. It also helped put into reach my goal of entering academia under the banner of Japanese studies. Really it helped my life do a total 180 and I'll always owe a debt to the place.

Jumping into the Sea Naked - Owase, Mie

After fighting in the street, the members of the neighborhood teams run to the local port and strip down to jump into an extremely cold sea. Once they managed to drag themselves out of the sea, everyone runs down to the local shrine to offer thanks to the local kami and pray for a good fish harvest. Good times!
