In Memory

Greg Voorhees

Sept. 10, 1953 ~ Jan. 29, 2012
On Sunday evening, January 29th, 2012 Greg retired his golf clubs for the last time. Our lives are infinitely better from simply knowing him. Adoring and adored, Greg was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend. Greg will be missed by all those who knew him. His enthusiasm for life will be missed but it was undimmed by his illness. Cancer may have taken his body but it could not steal his love of life or the light that shone from him.
Greg's life was one of helping others, especially those who needed rescuing. His sisters who observed this his whole life, called him a "knight in shining armor.
Perhaps the only thing he liked better than tending to his garden was golfing, on any course, at any time. Greg was a loyal fan of Vikings football, Jazz basketball and knew all the words to the U of U fight song, singing them enthusiastically; a Utah man was he.
He had a positive, optimistic attitude and was an example to the very end. He never complained. Others would have succumbed sooner to the disease, but Greg persevered, getting more from life and giving more of himself to the rest of us.
Greg made a living-and a many true friends-in sales. But whether his clients were buying cars or financial products, it always came with Greg's reputation.
Greg was born September 10, 1953 to H. Gail and Earlene Christensen Voorhees. Greg and Billie Wilkerson Voorhees began their lives together in 1987. Billie's children, Dustin and Tracy, became Greg's. Together Greg and Billie also had a "furry baby," Molly.
Greg's character is the stuff of legend: generosity, sincerity, selflessness and patience. Greg: what we'll miss the most is that wonderful laugh of yours that everyone found so contagious. You are loved. You will be missed. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/saltlaketribune/obituary.aspx?n=gregory-gail-voorhees&pid=155722044#sthash.8XC6RTCJ.dpuf
