I had Mr. Gallagher for my Home Room in both 10th and 11th grade.  Maybe that was why I vaguely remembered you.  smiley  I will say this for Mr. Gallagher.  Before him I didn't care one whit for History at all, could not relate to it.  He changed all of that for me, and showed me just how important it was, and the lessons that could be learned from it, if we just remembered, paid heed and used it as a tool to guide us going forward.  I can't begin to count the numerous factual and historical fiction novels I have read since, thanks to him.

Say Hey, H.H.H.S. - Class of 1960 -  Hello, Everyone - Happy New Year...John Gummo here in central PA, hoping that everyone had happy holidays!

Time has a way of "flying by"...and we thought we should get together with our classmates...so, my wife, Joyce (Hafner - Class of '59) and I are attempting to organize a "combo" reunion - we were consideringing that a luncheon on September 18th would be a great time for a gathering, if not on that particular day - then, some time that weekend.  I know that the the classes of '55, '56 and '57 are planning a "combo reunion" for that day at Doylestown Country Club....We need YOU to respond (promptly) to determine if enough classmates (& guests) are interested in joining us for this Event.  Joyce has contacted her classmates ('59) and several have shown enthusiasm for the idea.

FYI:  We have been in touch with our good classmate, Robert Meade, who organized the last reunion, and (re)established this website...he has been most helpful - thanks, Bob, for your due diligence!

Please confirm your interest as soon as possible - either through this website, or my email:  easternresources@comcast.net, or send a note to our home address:  John Gummo - Laurel Run Farm - 247 Sugar Run Rd., Beech Creek, PA 16822...or telephone:  570-916-2669 (my cell 'phone).  If you have contact information for classmates who may not access this website, please contact them.

More information to follow.  'Hope to see each of you/all of you...soon!

John Gummo

I meet with other H.H.H. girls about every 5-6 months. I will inform some that do not use the web. of your intentions. Thank You John & Joyce. Looking forward to this being a "happening", Karen

Hi to everyone.  I am glad to see that John Gummo is going to work on haiving a class reunion this year.  After having worked  as lead on the last five(5) reunions and helping on some of the previous five it is good to see someone new join in.  I had spoken with a couple of people recently about a reunion this year and then was contacted by John concerning this reunion.  In the past we always had a good number of people (generally local but also some away from Hatboro) work on the reunions.  I feel strongly that the reunions would not have been possible without all the help of the people on the committees.  I would also like to note that the planning for the reunion did not really start until the committee was involved so that decisions would be made by a group and not one or two classmates.  As Dave Orman noted he would be unable to attend on the weekend set by John.  If there are 5-6 different classes I think that might be a significant number.  I know lots of us (me included) have a relative in one of the other classes which might be nice but to me there is not a great deal of relationship between classes of 1955-57 and 1960.  In the past there was mention of joining together with 1959 and/or 1960 so that might be possible.  As noted above I do recommend creating a committe as the starting place for a reunion.

'Best to All!...Joyce and I believed that the lull in action relevant to a 60th reunion was lengthy - - -

Therefore, we stepped forward to determine the level of interest by both classes:  '59 & '60.  Joyce communicates regularly with several classmates via the Class of '59 Website.

We would be delighted to step away from the lead, to insure that decisions are formulated and agreed upon by a majority of the "Reunion Committee"...

Possibly, those interested in joining will announce themselves and step forward for a meeting in Hatboro which should be the most convenient.

To all those classmates who have reached out in consideration or support of a gathering (twelve,or so, to date - from the class of '60) - thank you.  Best to All!

John (& Joyce) Gummo

Great to hear from you, John and Joyce!  Thanks for taking on the project.  A reunion sounds great.  Ray and I usually start back to Florida the second week of September, but I think I might be able to talk him into staying through the 18th.  Sounds like you have some good help, but let me know if I can do anything from afar.  We spend the summer near Cape May, NJ, but frequently visit our youngest daughter Connie Campione in Dublin, PA. Keep me posted about planning meetings and I'll see if I can get there after June 10.

Hi John,

This is Blanche Bennett Smith and yes my husband and I would very much be interested in a class reunion. I would need a date so I can plan to take off work. It sounds like a great idea and would be good to see everyone.  We are in ILL. and would take a few days off so we would be in town for a few days. Count us in and give us a confirmed date. Thanks to you and Joyce for taking on this project which I think is not an easy one but you can do it.  Thanks again. Blanche.

Good Classmate's All -

Several more positive responses today, from both classes, ('59) and ('60)...

Bob Meade has indicated that he would prefer to move forward with a committee approach...so, any or all, who are interested in participating on a reunion committee, please announce yourself.

Joyce and I are willing to travel back to Hatboro, anytime - soon...to participate on the committee as necessary..

Please remember: Our idea was to have the reunion as a single DAY event, with lunch (dinner service), beginning midday, and the reunion gathering extending into the early evening...Friday, September 18th.

If others believe that this should be an entire weekend event - then, most definintely, a committee should be formed for coordinating and planning purposes.

Tentative arrangements with Doylestown Country Club, projected a cost for the dinner/lunch service, of $50.00 per person, with a cash bar.  At the MOMENT, they have availability for up to 200 persons, for a "classes" reunion, or a private room which will accommodate 60.  We, collectively, will need to make a decision sooner rather than later, guaranteeing space and reunion reservation arrangements.

Again, as necessary, Joyce and I are pleased to take your suggestions and/or participate within a committee approach.

Best All...Sincerely,  John Gummo  570-916-2669 (cell)

A weekend would be nice. We could have a60's gathering at another local resturant. Just a thought.

David Orman

As I noted in a private earlier note to him, I want to thank John (and Joyce) for initiating some specific action on a 60th Class Reuinion. I very much look forward to attending (though certainly not to win any prize for coming the farthest from my home in San Diego). As I explained to John, however, an event or events over the weekend of September 18 -- specifically, the 18th and 19th -- would not work for me.  I noted how we were all quite naive during our high school days, but that I hoped we had evolved far beyond that naivete as we became more exposed to the world beyond Hatboro -- and the civersity it contained.  Put briefly, I could understand how John just was not aware that September 18/19 fall on one of the most important Jewish holidays of the year, and I'm disappointed that the other classes have decided to schedule their events then. I realize some of you reading this are thinking, "I didn't know there were any Jewish kids in the class."  (Or in all of Hatboro, for that matter; there were others in Hatboro, though I don't know that I can say that about Horshamsmiley.)

Anyway, with the various commitments we all have these days, I understand how diffcult it can be to select a date that will please everyone. I would never want to be someone who insists others plan around my schedule. But i would hope, in 2020, that  our sensitivity and recognition of diversitythat will play a part in selecting as mutually acceptable a date as possible. Joan Kleinhoff -- for one -- has indicated, the weekend before would suit her schedule better.  I can only say I always found it best to keep Joan happy. Best regards, health and happiness to all.

HHHS Class(mates) of '60:  Good Classmates All - Over the past several days (few weeks), we have received numerous positive responses on a '59/'60 class reunion/get-together.  Many found the 18th of September to be suitable while others preferred an earlier date, such as 9/11 or 9/12/20.

Earlier today, I attempted to determine the flexibility at Doylestown CC, should a date become agreeable (by committee decision), prior to 9/18.  As I wait for Doylestown CC response, I ponder whether another location may be more suitable for a "Class of '60) reunion...

To cast your opinion on these matters of reunion location and finalization of date/time/destination - you are welcome to email me:  easternresources@comcast.net   -  All communicationss will be given to committee for consideration/deliberation.

Joyce and I are available for a pre-reunion meeting - Hatboro area...2/27 (Thursday) - following observance of Ash Wednesday, March 4 or Thursday, March 5.

Which classmates can, or are willing, to serve at a committee meeting or serve via Cell phone/email communication??  Please copy Robert Meade with your responses:  rameade@comcast.net

Bob Meade:  Please select a location - date and time...

Many thank yous to all who have expressed sincere interest in a '60-yr. reunion for the Class of '60!

Sincerely,

John Gummo  -  cell: 570-916-2669       home/ofc.:  570-726-6711     email:  easternresources@comcast.net

Hi John & Joyce,  Sorry to hear that some may not be able to join the reunion but as you probably know this could very well happen when you have overone hundred people to invite. Like a wedding, you almost have to pick a date and go with it.  I would think if you have a majority already for what you have proposed, go with it. Time iis not on our side. Karen Stuart Ambron
