Do you or your family still live or own your house that you grew up in?
...no, but it still stands..1 of about a dozen houses my Dad built for us.......as with many of the neighborhoods on the 'Northside'....the once peaceful and solidly bluecollar neighborhood I lived in from the time I was 5 years old.....between WHardy and Bauman Road is almost unrecognizeable.....only the trees have truly Survived and Flourished.....
...I took over the joy of organizing of the Class of 1966 for Reunions about October of 1996, so yes...I often chat with, visit and see 'almost everyone'......most everybody still keeps in touch with at least 1 other person.....then-n some seem to not be able to ( at all ) remember the year they graduated from HighSchool...LaNell Hight and I now attend the same Church
I worked at the old Sears on NShepherd during both 11th and 12th grades, after school, wknds...saving up for college..so didn't hang-out much of anywhere during those days..
...they were born when I was 11, 12 & 14...so when I was 18, they were 7, 6 & 4.....HISD was in a shambles by the time they started school...they were sent to mostly private schools, Burbank JrHigh at one point and all 3 graduated from StPius on NShepherd.....
...I started K in January at BurbankElementary/Miss Baird
1st - I was taken out and attended a PrivateChristian School off of Fulton
2nd Grade, then DeChaumes 3 - 6, Fonville 7 - 9th and graduated also in January, the 20th 1966
...in October 1962 @ the height of the CubanMissile Crisis & in between my 15th birthday & the conclusion of that event/the CubanMissileCrisis on the 30th....and after many months of drama & bombdrills in the schools....my dad built us a house on what is now RabonChapel road just north of 2920 & The Woodlands...we lived there for a year, I finished 9th grade @ Montgomery HS, but because I was a midtermer who would have entered the beginning of 10th grade @ SamHouston in January 1963....I then became 'instantly behind' my '66 classmates when we moved back to our Houston house in the summer of 1963...I spent all summer-long going to summerschool at both Fonville & downtown...I finally caught up to the January'66 class when I re-entered at SamHouston fall of 1963......
What did you want to do or think you were going to do when you finished high school?
...I had always planned to go to college & major in art/advertising, which is what I did do......I started working & saving for that adventure around end of 10th grade....lived in the dorms @ TWU in Denton, worked parttime......worked every summer & most holidays @ the old Sears store on NShepherd where I met my husband....
What and where was your 1st job? Do you remember how much you were paid?
....first job ever was @ the old YWCA downtown the summer I was 16.....paid ??

....got a car when I was 16 & started working @ the old Sears on NShepherd thru end of highschool, wknds, holidays & then after January '66 graduation & college....worked there when I came home for vacations, holidays as well.....
..Charles Spencer, bio - brother of Princess Diana...finally got a trip together to visit her ancestral home, Althorp, NW of London.. about 4 years ago. At the time Charles was married to his second wife and they were in residence there, her kids, his kids and their kids, 8 total I believe...he was in the tea room and giftshop, signing books the day I was there....we talked about his week before trip to Texas finalizing the great tour of Diana's dresses that ultimately went on US tour, then World-tour including a stop in Houston and are permanently housed on the grounds of Althorp....
...internet studying and researching Many subjects, genealogy (mine and John's, we do it together), walking & bikeriding, sewing, quilting & beading, reading Royal & Celebrity biographies, church work , being with my husband & sons, their wives & the granddogs, Fenton and Sugar and the 3 grandcats, Amy, 88 & Sandee... International & domestic Travel with my husband's oilfied teaching job( Scotland coming up in 2011) & movies ( we go almost every Friday nite)...
....since a very young person I have always tried to have a relationship with my God....He has rescued me many times and I give all praise for whatever in my life has come together....to Him....I wish we still lived in a little part of America that would try and do the same....He is the answer for all of our sadnesses and woes....but I do have hope and believe... He is still in Control....
Is there a moment in your life that stands out? A moment that defines who you are? Other than kids being born or your wedding day.
....can honestly say I had a post op pituitary tumor experience in 1996.....and yes it is true that a nice warm white light will beckon you to 'come'....I spent some truly difficult moments trying to decide if I really wanted to let go......it was calm, just like 'everyone says......'
