Marshall Patton Simpson

 

Marshall was born August 11, 1943, in Talihina, Oklahoma, and died June 1, 1969, on campus at Stanford University in California, from complications of diabetes.  A graduate of Southeastern (Oklahoma) State University, he taught school at an Indian Reservation in Arizona.  Marshall is buried in the Antlers City Cemetery next to his parents, John and Mattie Simpson.

"Mush" was one of he nicest, kindest people ever. He left us way too soon. He was a great team-mate and an even better person.

I remember one day walking with Marshall to his home, after school (2nd grade, I think), where my mother was going to pick me up. His parents had a very humble home, but they were very gracious and friendly. I remember that Marshall (at least in Eugene Field) didn't have a lot of friends, but he never let that make him bitter or resentful, and was friendly to all. He was a quiet and true friend.
