John Charles Metcalf, 60, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away at his home May 12, 2011, surrounded by his wife, family, and friends. John was born November 25, 1950 in Idaho Falls to Ray Metcalf and Marjorie Ann Bloxham Metcalf. He grew up in Idaho Falls, attended grade schools, O.E. Bell Jr. High, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School where he was a sophomore cheerleader, Junior Class Rummage Sale Chairman, Senior Class Demonstration Chairman, and Spud Annual Staff Candids Editor as well as participating in Ski Club, Dance Club, Spanish Club, Junior Prom Committee, and the Rules and Conduct Committee. He continued his education at Boise State University, then attended the University of Idaho, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. After college, John returned to Idaho Falls and worked at Max Ker and Son Lumber Company for 35 years. He was on the Board of Directors for the Mountain States Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association and was honored for his leadership with much admiration and dedication, serving from 1996 through 1999.

John was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was active as a youth in the Scouting program. On December 1, 1990, he married Becky Styhl Perkins, the love of his life. John's greatest joy was cooking for family and friends. He was a life-long member of the BPOE Elks Club of Idaho Falls. John served that organization well in many capacities. He loved cook-offs and exchanged many recipes with friends; he always remained the winner with much laughter. John loved nature and fishing with his dad, brother, and friends. He enjoyed hunting in the fall with Rod, dad, and many friends. 

The family would like to acknowledge the kind assistance of Aspen Home Health Care and Aspen Hospice; they are truly angels on this earth. Thank you to his family and friends who surrounded him with much love and compassion. A special thank you to his dear friends and care-givers, Steve Olsen, Angie and Brad Kellogg, and Natalie Burnabee. Thank you to our dear Aunt Betty Anderson, and Craig and Dee Anderson for their love and support. Aunt Betty, thank you for teaching Johnny to dance and love music.
