I only have fond memories of Gene. Seems like he played football with us at Bowie as a guard. I was a tackle and ligned up across from Gene and Bubba Wilson from time to time. Gene, we'll catch up with you soon.

Gene lived right next door to me on Brookhollow Drive.  I used to ride with him in his open jeep to school...I thought it was so cool.  We used to play football in his front yard until my Dad saw me strattling one of the boys heads and said my football days were over.  We used to have so much fun. I can't believe he is no longer alive.

Thanks to everyone for your comments.  Gene and I have two wonderful children, Gene Turner Baxter II, (25), and Rebecca Jean Baxter Ramirez, (27).  They miss their dad so much.  I can only imagine the day we will see him again.  Gene and I owned a Social Work business helping Mentally and Physically challenged people until shortly after Sept 11, 2001 - when the govt cut our grants.  He continued to help others until the day the Lord took him.  He had cheated death several times, I never thought .. the day would come.  I guess we all just blocked it out.  He had been sick for over a year prior to his passing.  Funny in 1998 he was in the hospital for 6 months and the day I picked him up - we grabbed fishing poles and the tackle box - along with his portable iv drip bag and sat out at the lake fishing all day.  I think those 6 months were the best .. I spent every night with him - the drs would make their rounds and find us in bed in the mornings - i can laugh & cry at it now... it was a tough time.  Thank God for my mom as she kept the children.  It was like finding each other all over again .... and then about 10 yrs later .... he was taken from us.

We miss you.  With much love, your family..............
