Couple of things about the call tomorrow night:

1.  There is a waiting room so if you log in early you all can chat

2. I will have open mic for the first few minutes and everyone can say hi etc.

3.  After the first five minutes I will mute all and if you want to talk or say something you can unmute yourself or leave a message in chat that you would like to talk.  If everyone is talking at the same time Zoom is a disaster. and you can't hear anyone.

4.  Agenda

  1. Any Updates on Lee High School itself or general class news
  2. Talk about the people we have lost this past year - would someone like to head this up.
  3. Depending on how many people we have in the call each person can share information on what they are doing now and where they are in the world.  No more then 2-3 minutes each.  I planned on the call lasting 1.5 hours.
  4. Is anyone doing anything online now during this time frame that people might like to participate in?
  5. What has been your favorite thing to watch, read, or listen to during the pandemic.
  6. Have any classmates had a chance to meet up anywhere in the past year.  Share memories.
  7. Anything else anyone would like to talk about?

I plan on having some wine during the call so join me with your favorite beverage and have fun.  If anyone would like to add anything to the call please let me know and we will add it.

See you tomorrow night,

Jane Johnson

Hello Jane

Thanks so much for the Zoom meeting you arranged for last night. It was great to visit with my classmates without leaving home during this time in the US.  Wish there were more of us online but maybe next time we'll have a larger turnout.  I'll admit I don't always check the Message Forum promptly, could be that others may overlook those emails too.  Anyway, I look forward to the next Zoom whenever that may happen. Thanks again.

Hi Charrles and Susan.

Yes that was fun and we will have to do it again.  It was hysterical when Jimmy Kelly kept sharing his screen.  Here is the ecording for the chat.  Hope more will join us in a couple of months.  https://us02web.zoom.us/rec/play/7JAscOqu-2g3SICS4gSDC_VwW43sJqqs2ygbq_INxUngUHMCM1CgYOMTYLZPghhYk6KnKWGh303QgID6?continueMode=true&_x_zm_rtaid=5Zz0-I9tRA-FieBkyTDMLg.1589727525392.a7a2c22a2d5d07bc44151929183dc84f&_x_zm_rhtaid=694

Sorry to hear about Kathy Brown. I can remember back to all the fun we had at Lee and the DeMolay dances. Even when I went away to U of F we had a blast at some of the Gator games.

I remember not seeing Kathy since our Lee days. But! One day I got a call from DOT that AT&T had closed a lane at Roosevelt and McDuff without a permit and  they were backing up traffic. I arrived and told the supervisor to stop working and open Roosevelt Blvd.

Just as I was getting back on my police motorcycle, I heard someone say, " Jimmy Gardner, why did you stop my people from working, ? " it was Kathy ! She said, you remember that night at Penny Burger?

I allowed AT&T to close Roosevelt, no questions asked.

Hello All

I meant to ask during the Zoom last month whether there had been any talk about renaming Lee HS as was done to Forrest HS a few years back. Just this week there was a news story about the removal of the Robert E. Lee statue in Richmond, VA. Reason stated was that "Lee fought to preserve slavery". Any thoughts?

I'm torn.  Lee H.S. is MY history, a name change would feel that my H.S. no longer exists - it wouldn't.  However, on the flip side, I definitely understand why blacks see all these H.S.'s name after Confederate Generals as offensive.  I find it interesting that so many in Jacksonville were named after Southern Generals, and I don't even think of FL as a well-accepted Confederate state.  Given the fact that so many monuments/buildings were named after Confederate officers in the 1900s and not immediately after the war, it apprears to be a white-supremacy intimidation thing, not as much of an "in honor of" thing.  These generals did serve their cause, whether right or not, in support of their "way of life."  We all do the same thing today.  We're not all correct today, and it doesn't mean they were correct back then.  BUT, it IS part of our national history, so to "bury" it by removing it also seems a little Hitleresque, if you burn the books it will negate history.  I think we need to find a way to preserve history (maybe selectively or in museums) without glorifying it.  Not an easy task!  Hope everyone has a good and safe day.
