In retirement I am a writer of fiction (Novel and short stories), poetry (winner of a couple of poetry prizes), commentary on religion, sports (CBS Sports), politics, and society. My blog, The Sermon I Wish I heard Today, is published weekly. I am published monthly in Ducas, a publication of the Irish American Cultural Institute.

I am a founder, former President, and current Board member of the Friends of the Bellevue Avenue Library, Montclair, that had been previously closed because of municipal budget cuts. The library is now open five days a week thanks to the revolution that I helped lead. We are now preparing to celebrate the 100th anniversary of this magnificent Carnegie building in 2014.

I am also a leader of an Irish Heritage Group that meets monthly for breakfast.

I am one of the leaders of Project Reconnect, an Archdiocesan effort to reach out to resigned priests. A number of retired priests have also joined the group and it is quite exciting and rewarding.

I love being part of our class and I feel honored and energized to be our Class Beadle.

I use the status of my election as a Legend of St. Peter's Prep to be an advocate on the Alumni Board that I helped to create to promote the interests the classes of the late 40s and 50s.

I am the host of TV34's News in Interesting Times. I am also host of TV34's Mostly Montclair, an interview show focused on the social issues impacting the Montclair community.

I continue to serve on the Prep Alumni Board that I helped to found. I serve on the Spirituality Committee and the Honor's Dinner Committee.

Back in our days at Prep, more than a half century ago, Rene Ackerman was sometimes called Ray, one syllable short of Rene. I thought that was cool becuase I might have been the only Ray that I knew at the time. I knew that after college he went into the military. I thought that would be a tough fit for him because he was the consummate gentleman,.but he was in the military for 30 tears and retired as a Lt. Colonel. His military job was to count money and I thought that was a pretty good.for him. Reading his obituary, he came through life with a few battle scars, non military, but settled into a nice life on Kiawa Island with a large and lovely family. He came to a luncheon many years ago and proved to be very enjoyable company. He was close with his St. Nicholas" friends at Prep, esperially Vernal Piantnida, who works as hard as anyone to stay in touch with old friends especially those of us sub umbra Petri. 1/6/22, Ray Aumack

I was looking at the before and current photos. In your current photo, you have mellowed. The rest of us have lost hair and filled out, so you are not unique. But the photos tell a story. There is wisdom and compassion in your current photo. The scars in the battle of life are behind you, healed. You are at peace, evidenced in a radiant smile. Fifty years plus in the Lord's service should earn you some stripes. Belated congratulations.
