Jim always seemed to be a happy guy with a friendly hello. In 1967 the movie Cool Hand Luke was showing. People were placing bets with Jim on his claim that he could eat fifty hard boiled eggs in an hour just like Luke. Good old Jimbo.

Jim was always kind and friendly to everyone. I don't know who coaxed him to do the Paul Newman "Cool Hand Luke" egg thing, but I remember being there watching him try to beat the record. If I remember correctly, we were betting a few bucks on whether he'd do it or not -- just like in the movie! Who says Kearney kids didn't have fun back then? We'll miss you "Luke". John Wolf

Jim and I knew each other forever it seems. His parents were friends of my Grandparents and my parents. I remember one nice Christmas Day in about 8th grade, Jim and I met out on the street riding our new bikes that we received as Christmas gifts. Both Swinn (sp) his was black and chome (I think)and mine purple and chrome, both two speed where you started in low and then peddled backward a short distance to shift to high gear. I never could beat him in all the races we made that day. Even with the "head starts" that Jim gave me. His legs were just too powerful. In high school as seniors, Jim and I snuck out of school on several occasions to go to Corral Cafe for a short stack of pancakes and coffee for about forty cents. I never got caught sneaking back in to school but Jim got in trouble almost every time. I think the next time I have a stack of pancakes I will remember Jim. I'm sure Jim and Kathy are looking down on us right now, happy together again.

Jim was a great friend and I cherish the many memories we shared together. The COOL HAND LUKE egg eating thing was one I am sure many of us won't ever forget. The memory I think of most often is the day Jim and I rode our bikes over the 2nd ave overpass. We stopped at the top and looked over the edge as a train passed directly underneath. I still remember the smell and heat of burnt diesel fuel blasting our faces from the trains huge engine exhaust. Jim always had this unique ability of creating a different facial expression for every circumstance and this one was unforgettable. I laugh every time I think of that moment we pulled our heads back from the edge and looked into each others WIDE EYED, DROPPED JAWED, SMOKE BLACKENED FACE. It was most certainly a KODAK MOMENT, wish I had a picture. Miss Ya Jimbo, Bruce
