Carol and I knew each other starting from Brownie Scouts, but lost touch as adults until shortly before her death from lung cancer. We were both working at Frontier Science, and she actually recognized me from all those years before. I'm glad we reconnected for that brief time.
Carol and I met the summer I moved to McConkey Drive. She lived down the street and became one of my best friends. Every morning we'd walk to the Delaware Pool for swimming lessons, then we hung around the neighborhood in the afternoon. In the fall we were both in Mrs. Canning's fourth grade class at Phillip Sheridan. As we got older we and some of the other neighborhood kids (Briar MacDonald, Kathy Johnson and Sharon Hall) would sometimes walk all the way to the bowling alley on Niagara Falls Boulevard and stop at the newly opened McDonald's where hamburgers were 15 cents!
