After High School, I spent the next 7 years in a haze of pot smoke, then alcohol, then both. I took 3 semesters of an associate degree program in food service management at GTI in Racine, before deciding it wasn't for me. This, of course, thrilled my parents who were paying for it.
After that I spent 4 years in the USMC, working on aircraft electrical systems.
After my discharge from the military, I was accepted into an electrical apprenticeship program in FL.
Being a drunken pothead, I pursued this with the same lack of dedication as everything else, leading to the predictable mediocrity, and eventually the loss of a good job.
It was at this point that things began to change.
At my next job, I was paired with a guy who was an outspoken Christian.Having grown up with an image of Christians as lemon sucking, hymn singing, ignorant, "church lady" types, who never had any fun, and didn't want you to either, I was none too happy about this.
As I worked with him day after day, however, I began to see a man who was not ignorant, judgmental, or boring. In fact, he was having more fun as a Christian than I was partying.I realize there are plenty of people who call themselves Christians that are exactly what I grew up believing they were, but after a year of watching this guy, and seeing the genuineness ,and consistency in his life, I decided if there really was a God who could do that in him, I ought to give Him a chance to do it in me too.
Now I would like to tell you that when I received Jesus as Savior, all my problems went away, and I didn't sin anymore, but I think someone who would say that would lie about other things too. I can say, however, that I've never been sorry I did. It's been a long, sometimes painful process, but God has been faithful to be there for me, provide for me, and move me toward being the man He created me to be.
I'm not perfect, and, this side of heaven, I never will be, but my life over the last 22 years has been better than anything I had before. I am married to a beautiful, incredible, woman. Given the fact that she's married to ME, she obviously doesn't realize how incredible she is. Thank God. We have 3 great kids. I work full time as an electrical service tech for 1 company, am the license holder for another, and run my own company in whatever time I have left. I do kids music & drama ministries at my church, and sing solo whenever the opportunity arises. I will not be attending the reunion, because my kids will be back in school by then. I will, however, be in Kenosha over 4th of July weekend, singing at an event called True Freedom, at the bandshell. I'd love to see as many of you as might like to come.
